I. CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by Heather Moretzsohn at 6:01 pm. II. ROLL CALL: Reba George called roll. A quorum was met with 13 members present. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Hailey Kimball moved to accept the minutes with corrections. Westi Horn seconded. Minutes were approved. IV. FINANCIAL REPORT: Current Available Funds is $4,922.85. Parks and Recreation paid for Sister City gifts and annual web hosting fee. V. PUBLIC COMMENT: none VI. NEW BUSINESS: A. Activities Expenses Alan Thornburg outlined budget for upcoming High School exchange hosting activities and requested an $800 advance to cover initial purchases until reimbursements are made. Chair called for voice vote and it was unanimous. B. New Sister Cities Two new Sister City suggestions were made at June 2, 2014 regular meeting: Linz, Austria, and a city in Nigeria. Don Russell moved to table discussion to September meeting. Kevin Aguilar-Ferrari seconded. C. 2015 Student Fundraising Goal John Sloan suggested a fundraising goal for each student and that parent involvement be required. Further discussion on types of fundraising strategies and financial requirements for families. Heather tabled discussion to August meeting. VII. OLD BUSINESS: A. Del Mar Small Business Development Council/Global Trade Section Expo The Expo will be held Wednesday, August 6th from 4 to 6 pm. Discussion about having a poster and/or current brochure available at table. B. Toledo Exchange — Intensive Spanish Course No discussion. C. High School Counselor Luncheon Discussion for hosting a luncheon or breakfast for High School Counselors to raise awareness of the Sister City Exchange in hopes of increasing the number of student applications. Idea came up to invite Mayor to event. VIII. Liaison Reports A. Yokosuka, Japan —Westi reported that student arrived ok. B. Agen, France — Mark reported that student arrived ok. C. Keelung, Taiwan —Alan reported that student arrived ok. D. Playa del Carmen — John Sloan reported on his visit in June. John has met with Fire Chief Robert Rocha. E. Toledo, Spain — no report. IX. Task Manager Reports A. Publicity Reports — Yvonne will assist in drafting Press Release and Reba will assist in sending out to media. Press release will include multiple days and times of Sister City exchange activities, including 7/25/14 press conference at Galvan House, 7/29/14 City Council meeting, and 8/5/14 Farewell dinner. Reba will contact KEDT TV to see about possibility of interview. B. Social Media/Website — None C. Curriculum/Training — None D. Fundraising — donation of $500 from Korean Chamber of Commerce will be presented to the Sister City Program during 7/29/14 pre-Council meeting activities. E. New Sister City Evaluation — no report F. Activities — Alan shared a calendar of activities for the two week period that students will be coming to Corpus Christi. Asked that anyone who wanted to participate and help with the activities sign up. G. Selection — None H. Pen Pal — None I. Student Service — None J. Historian — None X. Updates - None XI. Identify Items to be Placed on Next Agenda • Setting future student fundraising goals and defining parent responsibility XII. ADJOURNMENT: Hailey Kimball moved to adjourn the meeting.
