I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by Alan Thornburg at 6:00 pm.
II. ROLL CALL: Reba George called roll. A quorum was met with 11 members present.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: John Sloan moved to accept the minutes as submitted.
Westi Horn seconded. Minutes were approved.
IV. FINANCIAL REPORT: None
V. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
VI. DISCUSSION/ACTION
Introduction of new members Charlie Bass & Bryan Menard
VII. Liaison Reports
A. Yokosuka, Japan — None
B. Agen, France — The cards we sent to France were very well received. Mark is still working to set
up a direct High School student exchange with CCISD.
C. Keelung, Taiwan — None
D. Playa del Carmen, Mexico— None
E. Toledo, Spain — None
F. Veracruz, Mexico — Heather has had contact with Ivonne Cruz who is a Veracruz National but
now lives here and would like to connect with SCC to set up an exchange.
VIII. Task Manager Reports
A. Publicity — Sunny Kim has contacted the local news channels and is expecting Channel 3 will
cover the announcement tonight. John Sloan asked if we could get news coverage for the Zeta
car wash.
B. Curriculum/Training — John Maldonado announced that testing will be on March 14th at La
Retama Library. The backup date will be March 21St. The training dates will be the same as listed
on the student applications: April 12th 19th & 26th
C. Fundraising — Lee White handed out a written report. They have raised $670 through Go Fund
Me which will take 4% in fees. John Sloan is working on writing a grant. They are drafting a letter
to give to Civic organizations, planning a summer fundraising event and are planning a corporate
fundraiser as well.
D. Activities — Heather announced that Whataburger requires a 60 day lead on coupon requests.
She will contact them to make the request for this summer.
E. Selection — There were 6 applicants this year and 4 students were selected: Brianna Hoelscher;
Lauren Pace; Audrey Dechant; Mikaela Rendon.
F. Student Service — John Sloan announced Student Service opportunities: April 11 th — Car wash;
April 18th — Beach cleanup on North Beach; April 25th — Car wash. Alan suggested that the dates
may be in conflict with the Training Schedule which is April 12th 19th & 26th
IX. Identify Items to be Placed on Next Agenda
None
X. General Chair Report - Alan announced that John Maldonado, Lee White, Hailey Kimball, and
new members Charlie Bass & Bryan Menard all need to take the Open Meetings Training course
online.
XI. City Staff Report - None
XII. ADJOURNMENT: Alan Thornburg adjourned the meeting at 6:22 pm.
