I. CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Sister City Committee was called to order by Alan Thornburg at 6:03 pm. II. ROLL CALL: City Staff called roll. A quorum was met with 8 members present. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: By general consensus the Minutes were approved as submitted. IV. FINANCIAL REPORT: $3,415.52 total available funds V. PUBLIC COMMENT: None VI. DISCUSSION/ACTION Chief Rocha — Playa del Carmen and Monterrey Exchange Fire Chief Robert Rocha updated the Committee on the current Fireman exchange with 3 Mexican Cities. Although the original dialogue began with Playa del Carmen their Fire Chief recently passed away so they will not be able to participate in this first exchange, however, 4 Firemen from Monterrey and 4 from Veracruz will be participating. The training will last 4 days, July 20th through the 24th, and will focus on car accident recovery, building collapse, hazardous materials, and fire suppression. Chief Rocha will be providing the lodging, dinner meals and the training, with the help of some Firemen from Kansas City, and anticipates sending the trainees back with some donated equipment. They will provide all of their own transportation costs and other food or travel expenses. Chief Rocha will provide Lee with photos to post on SCC social media, and will send an itinerary once it's finalized so that SCC members can stop by. Heather invited Chief Rocha to come to the press release on Friday, July 24th at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. VII. Liaison Reports A. Yokosuka, Japan —Westi reported that there was a major flight delay from Corpus Christi to San Antonio so Audrey Dechant's parents drove to San Antonio so that Audrey and Brianna Hoelscher could catch their flight from San Antonio to Dallas. They made the rest of their flight fine and seem to be having a good time in Japan. B. Agen, France — no report C. Keelung, Taiwan — Misaki reported that Lauren Pace arrived in Taiwan with no problems. She seems to be having a good time and has been posting pictures from the beach, shopping, camp, etc. Lauren will return on July 21St with the two Taiwanese students. D. Playa del Carmen, Mexico— None E. Toledo, Spain — None F. Veracruz, Mexico— None VIII. Task Manager Reports A. Publicity — Sunny distributed a press release draft and will send a final version to her media contacts. B. Curriculum/Training — None C. Fundraising — Lee distributed a taskforce report and announced that the SCC Facebook page has 116 likes. Committee members were asked to like and share the SCC page with their friends. Committee members agreed to share any photos or updates with Lee so that he could post to the page as well. Lee requested permission to change the funding goal for the second Go Fund Me campaign; it is currently set at$5,000 but he would like to change it to $12,000 to pay 100% of the 2016 student travel costs. Lee proposed a fundraising event with food and wine pairings from our Sister Cities hosted by Cactus &Vine to take place by mid-September. Committee members reported several donations: Chick-fil-a; Jason's Deli; Salina's Catering to provide a meal; Whataburger — 25 breakfast, 25 anytime meals, 25 backpacks; HEB - $500; Korean Chamber of Commerce $100 and drinks for events; Hibachi Grill; L'Alliance Francaise de Corpus Christi - $100; all of the Student Activities Fees were donated: Harbor Playhouse tickets, Botanical Gardens; Karma Floating Classroom; Museum of Asian Culture; USS Lexington; and the Aquarium. D. Activities — Heather and Westi reviewed the activities schedule and distributed a sign up list for Committee members to chaperone the various events. Westi will send a revised list to everyone when it's finalized. E. Selection — None F. Student Service — None G. Other — Heather requested members interested in helping to develop a Memo of Understanding with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to stay after the meeting to discuss. Reba reported that she will be having a meeting with Teresa to draft an MOU for the City and will share with the SCC for review. IX. Identify Items to be Placed on Next Agenda Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Partnership X. General Chair Report—Alan requested Lee to take over the Social Media task and Lee agreed. XI. City Staff Report — Hailey Kimball sent a request asking that her June absence be excused due to illness and the absence from this meeting due to being out of town. The Committee excused the June absence but not the July absence. Tess announced that the City Secretary's Office has two current applications and they have requested that the SCC members help with recruiting new SCC applicants to help fill the vacancies. XII.
