I. Call to Order-4:09pm
II. Roll Call of Members- Stacie Talbert Anaya-Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation
Present—Christian, Campos, Rodriguez
Not Present— Ehlen, Wiezer
Staff—Alford, Anaya, Castaneda (taking place of Clayton), Perez, Pyle,Wyatt
III. Adoption of Minutes from May 8, 2014 Campos motioned; Rodriguez seconded; all in favor
IV. Public Comment
Huxley Smith and Carlos Valdez from the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee attended the meeting
but made no official comment
V. Presentations
1. Salvador Alemany—Texas Forest Service made a presentation on drought tolerant trees to be
considered for planting in South Texas. Mr. Alemany is the regional forester for the Texas
Forest Service (Corpus Christi to Laredo—south). He can provide guidance on tree inventories,
management plans, educational workshops, and arbor day activities. At the next meeting he
will provide a report/presentation on a tree inventory being conducted in the Rio Grande Valley
and make suggestions for conducting our own.

1. Report on Tree Inventory Sample—tabled until next meeting
2. Report on Tree Maintenance and Planting Best Practices Review—tabled until next meeting
3. Report on Education Program - Ms. Rodriguez gave a brief report on the goals, objectives and
scope of the education program. An outline and trifold were provided and sent out to the entire
committee for review. Campos and Rodriguez talked about integrating the information provided
by Mr. Alemany into the pamphlet as well as exploring the possibility of a tree farm to
supplement educational program.
