HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Water Resources Advisory Committee - 06/20/2013 Minutes Water Resource Advisory Committee Thursday,June 20, 2013— 2726 Holly Road, Water Utilities Building Members present:Jeff Edmonds, Robert Kunkel, Mark Stroop, Sally Gill, Sam Sanders, Lillian Riojas, Scott Kucera, and Mark Scott. Staff members and guests: Brian Butscher,Joanne Salge, Debbie Lindsey-Opel (Three Dimensional Development), Rocky Freund (Nueces River Authority), and Buster Terry (CCISD). Mr. Edmonds called the meeting to order at 11:36 a.m. The committee members introduced themselves as there were new members and guests present. The minutes of May 9, 2013 were reviewed and approved as written. Scott Kucera made the motion to approve the minutes and Mark Stroop second. Review of the Reservoir System Statistics: Brian Butscher reviewed the current statistics. The combined lake level is at 35.2% and some recent rainfall is expected to raise the level in the next few days. Lake Texana is at 91.5% (42.53 feet) capacity. Levels from the past 36 months were reviewed and discussed. Drought conditions continue across the region and State. The Corpus Christi City Council approved the new Drought Contingency Plan and the Water Conservation Plan on May 28, 2013 and the plans went into effect on June 3, 2013. Enforcement of the plans will begin on Monday,June 24, 2013. The plans address conservation measures that will become every day practices and also measures that will be in force during drought conditions. We are currently in Stage 2. Anyone seeking an exemption or variance from these restrictions can apply for a permit by filling out an application. The application will be reviewed and either approved or denied by the Water Department. Discussion on changes to the current Landscape Ordinance and engagement of the Emergency Operation Center are also being discussed by the Water Department as well as other City departments. Mary Rhodes Pipeline Phase II: The Mary Rhodes Pipeline Phase II is on track to be completed in Spring 2015. The construction plans are 90% complete. Plans for a pilot desalination program have been submitted to the Bureau of Reclamation. The Water Department is also exploring the use of existing water wells in the area. All agreed that communication with our regional partners and our customers is a key element in continued management of the drought. The committee wants to meet after the plan is in place to see what issues arise from the new restrictions. The next meeting of the Water Resource Advisory Committee will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Water Utilities Building, Choke Canyon Conference Room. The meeting was adjourned at 12:57 p.m.
