BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION A. New Business Presentation by Adriana Leiva Adriana Leiva informed the committee that a grant was received from "Keep America Beautiful."The Grant covers the cost of purchasing cigarette ash receptacles to collect ash and cigarette butts that are often left behind at parks and beaches. Ms. Leiva proposed using the grant to cover the cost of purchasing receptacles to place out on the jetties at Packery Channel. Each receptacle can hold approximately 750 cigarette butts. She suggested placing 2 on each jetty on the North and South side. She also recommended posting signage to educate the public. She is working with the City's Clean City Coordinator, Angela Gonzalez, who received a $5,000 grant. That grant will be used to place receptacles along the Bayfront. The City would need to maintain the dispensers by having them emptied daily. The committee expressed concerns on the type of material used to construct the receptacle as it is difficult to prevent rusting on the beach. The committee would like more information at the next meeting. Jennifer made a motion to support the idea of installing the receptacles and recommended finding a material suitable to beach conditions. Jay seconded. Motion passed unopposed. 6-pack Update Derek provided an update to the Packery Channel 6-pack. Phases 1&2 have been completed. Phase 3, which includes the restroom on the North Side of Packery, is in design negotiations this month. The funding is there and will be released in August 2014. Phase 4 includes the ADA ramp to the Jetty. Due to rule changes, the initial design is no longer valid. Phase 6 including the maintenance building is due for completion in, at minimum, 3 years.
