MINUTES CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Advisory Committee Meeting
January 7, 2010
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum's DeDietrich Conference Room at Noon
on Thursday,January 7, 2010. Members Present: Pablo Garza,Janda Halcomb, Robert
Hatherill, Kathy Juneau, Tom Kimes, Shannon Madden,Jim Moloney,Nelida Ortiz, Luci Sosa,
and Linda Tomo.
Upon motion by Tom Kimes and seconded by Kathy Juneau, the minutes of the December 3,
2009 regular meeting were approved as presented.
Upon motion by Pablo Garza and seconded by Kathy Juneau the absences of Nelida Ortiz and
Jim Moloney were excused.
Business:
a. Various members of the Museum staff reported on education program improvements targeting
the CCISD first and fifth grade programs,the new Teacher's Guide for the La Salle Odyssey
exhibit, and new and revised focus programs. They also reported on the new requirement of the
agreement with CCISD that those presenting programs to CCISD students submit to a
background check, a process that has been completed for both staff and volunteers.
b. Committee members reviewed Museum fees and charges.
I. Upon motion by Tom Kimes and seconded by Linda Tomo,the committee unanimously
adopted an increase for birthday party rentals: $90 for members, $150 for non members.
2. Upon motion by Jim Moloney and seconded by Pablo Garza the committee unanimously
adopted an admission fee increase of$1 each for adults and senior citizens.
3. Upon motion by Kathy Juneau and seconded by Pablo Garza the committee unanimously
adopted amendments to the facility rental policy including a fee increase of$300/hour
for extended rentals(after the 4 hour rental period)and $500/hour for rentals that extend
after midnight; and a requirement that renters be required to hire up to 2 security guards
from an approved private security provider for events that serve alcohol and events for
which near capacity attendance is anticipated; and an event participant fee of$2 per
person for attendees to be paid as part of the facility rental agreement.
c. Marketing and Public Relations program discussion and discussion of Cultural Activities:
American Indians in Texas: Past and Present" were tabled until next meeting.
e. Staff Reports
-Rick Stryker gave a brief update on the proposal to reduce City departmental budgets
due to sales tax revenue shortfalls.
