Advisory Committee Meeting
April 1, 2010

on Thursday, April 1, 2010. Members Present: Jonda Halcomb, Kimberly Harris-Ward,
Robert Hatherill, Kathy Juneau, Tom Kimes, Luci Sosa, Scott Sutherland, and Linda Tomo.
New member Scott Sutherland was welcomed to the Committee.
The minutes of the March 4, 2010 regular meeting were approved as presented.
Upon motion by Linda Tomo and seconded by Jonda Halcomb the absences of Kathy Juneau,
Luci Sosa, and Kimberly Harris-Ward were excused.
Business:
a.Rick reviewed a memorandum submitted to the Office of Management and Budget regarding
the Museum's budget submittal. It appears very likely that there will be a significant reduction
in funding for the Museum (10%+) along with other City departments. After considerable
discussion the Advisory Committee asked that Rick assist the Committee chair in developing a
constructive recommendation for consideration by the City Council. The Committee expressed
concern that in difficult times it is even more essential that quality of life services such as those
provided by the Museum be given appropriate levels of support.
b.The Committee reviewed the 2010 Proposed Endowment Budget that was approved by the
Friends Board of Directors.
c.The Committee reviewed the Background Information memorandum provided to the Council
as they considered the first reading of the leave of Nina to the Columbus Sailing Association.
d. Staff Reports
• The HVA/C revisions are focusing on the North Building in an effort to complete that

advantage of the programs offered during Wild Science Week.
• Rick and Bonnie met with the tourism staff of the CVB to share their concerns regarding
marketing for the Museum.
• Members received copies of the Texas Tropical Trail Region 2009 Accomplishments.
e. It was requested that a discussion of revenue streams be placed on the next agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
