Members Present: Pablo Garza, Robert Hatherill, Tom Kimes, Jim Moloney, Luci Sosa, and Linda Tomo. - Upon motion by Tom Kimes and seconded by Luci Sosa the minutes of the October b, 2011 regular meeting were approved as presented. - Upon motion by Tom Kimes and seconded by Luci Sosa the absences of Pablo Garza, Robert Hatherill and Linda Torno were excused for good cause. Business: a. Upon motion by Pablo Garza and seconded by Tom Kimes the Committee unanimously approved the following recommendation to develop a formal agreement between the Friends of the Museum and the City. Whereas, the Friends of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation whose sole purpose is to provide support for the Museum of Science and History; and Whereas, the Friends are governed by an independent board of directors; and Whereas, the Friends have evolved to become the principle source for annual funding for Museum exhibits, programs and much more; and Whereas, the average annual operating support provided by the Friends over the last decade has exceeded $200,000; Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Museum Advisory Committee recommends that the City enter into a formal working agreement with the Friends of the Museum recognizing the special relationship between the Friends and the City. b. Upon motion by Tom Kimes and seconded by Pablo Garza the Committee unanimously approved a recommendation to abolish the Museum Adviscry Committee and tFansfer their responsibilities to the Friends of the Museum. Whereas, the Museum Advisory Committee has long provided advice to the City Council and the Museum Director on issues of Museum policy and practice provided by the Museum; and Whereas, responsibility for development of Museum policy and practice has in large part migrated to the Friends of the Museum as they have taken over funding many of the services once solely the responsibility of the City; and Whereas, this shift has significantly diminished the role of the Museum Advisory Committee as responsibility has increased for the Friends Board of Directors; Now, Therefore, be it resolved that the Museum Advisory Committee recommends that the City study whether the Committee should be abolished and the responsibilities of the Committee transferred to the Friends Board of Directors. c. Upon motion by Linda Torno and seconded by Tom Kimes the Committee unanimously approved a recommendation to develop a formal agreement between the Museum Auxiliary and the City. Whereas, the Corpus Christi Museum Auxiliary is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation whose sole mission is to provide support for the Museum of Science and History; and Whereas, the Auxiliary is governed by an independent board of directors; and Whereas, the Auxiliary owns the Museum gift shop and funds important Museum operating costs including support for the Museum library and admission staff; Therefore, be it resolved that the Museum Advisory Committee recommends that the City enter into a formal working agreement with the Museum Auxiliary recognizing the special relationship between the Auxiliary and the City. d.
