HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Museum Of Science And History Advisory Committee - 03/01/2012MINUTES APR 0 2 2012 Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History Advisory Committee Meeting CITY SECRETARY'S C March 1, 2012 The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum's DeDietrich Conference Room at Noon on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Members Present: Robert Hatherill, Tom Kimes, Shannon Madden, Scott Sutherland, and Linda Torno. - Upon motion by Scott Sutherland and seconded by Shannon Madden the minutes of the February 2, 2012 regular meeting were approved as amended. - Upon motion by Shannon Madden and seconded by Rob Hatherill the absences of Scott Sutherland and Linda Tomo were excused for good cause. Business: a. The presentation of the Museum budget to the executive team will take place on March 5 Rick Stryker reviewed three slides from that presentation including: • Major Accomplishments for FY 2012 — accreditation, La Belle project completion, the anticipated MOU with museum support organizations, and obtaining private funding for the Lower Nueces River Archeology project, • Pinnacle Issues for 2013 — energizing the exhibit development team, stepping up private support and significantly increasing earned revenue, implementing a succession plan for the director, and implementing a capital campaign to support moving forward with the exhibit conceptual plan, • Goals for FY 2013 — Complete the McKinsry Energy Conservation Project, complete exhibit projects that will improve the visitor experience, deliver the Lower Nueces River Valley Project manuscript to the publisher, and implement a succession plan that focuses on increasing private support . b. The action to approve the proposed MOU with the Friends and the Auxiliary was tabled because at their last meeting the Friends had some issues with it. c. Eric Ray reported on the experiment that he conducted and. its findings through replicating and detonating "firepots" like those found on La Salle's ship LaBelle. d. Staff Reports - The Planning Department that recently moved into the offices at the north end of the Museum are now expected to move back to City Hall. . - The reception for the MPMA Board and Conference Planning Committee on Thursday, February 9 was a great success. Those attending expressed gratitude for the hospitality and were very impressed by the Museum. - Linda Torno reported that CAST (Conference for the Advancement of Science Teachers) will meet in Corpus Christi from November 7 through November 10.
