MEETING MINUTES
1) Call to Order: 12:00 PM by Jonda Holcomb
2) Roll Call
a. Present: Jonda Halcomb, Steve Arnold, Scott Sutherland, Amanda Leal, Anita
Eisenhauer, Carol Rhetmeyer
b. Absent: Cary Perales
3) Adoption of minutes
Motion to adopt minutes by Scott, 2nd by Steve. All in favor. Passed.
4) Public Comment- None
5) Deaccession Items
a. Intro about deaccession process to Ruben Rocha
b. May sell or donate books. Texas books on list are duplicates.
c. Motion to deaccession by Arnold, 2nd by Scott. All in favor. Passed.
6) Museum Director's Updates by Carol Rhetmeyer
a. More than 100 events per year.
b. Had Holiday at the Museum with over 500 people
c. Noon Years' Eve- over 500 people attend.
d. Homeschool days run two days now due to popularity. Record breaking numbers.
e. Boyscout Badge Program will host"Robots"on January 23rd.
f. Sensory Night- Hundreds of people attended. Scholarships for the blind were
provided.
g. Directors Circle going to Chicago May 10-12th. Details coming soon.
h. Gearing up for Spring Break. Children's Science Center scheduled to be complete.
i. Science Center budget = $3M
j. Spring Break One Week Camps. Something different every day (biology,
chemistry, engineering, field trip).
k. Family Fun Day- January 9th
I. Teacher Preview Night- January 19th. Teachers enter for free. Will be provided
lesson plans.
m. Science on Tap- January 27th Polymers Theme.
n. Distinguished Lecture Series- Want to recruit someone of the magnitude of
Steven Hawking. Looking for a date in September at the Selena Auditorium.
Funding provided by private source that will pay for speaker and remainder will
come from ticket sales.
o. VIP Ribbon Cutting- Friday, March 4t". MAB is welcome to attend.
p. Grand Opening to the Public is Saturday, March 6t"
q. Open up one hour early on Saturdays for members
r. Wes and Jace Tunnel did a lecture about Caranchua. The Tunnels have donated
artifacts to the Museum.
s. Moving the gun exhibit.
t. Citgo coming on Jan. 7th with Mayor Martinez. City Council touring facility on the
Jan. 14th.
u. Over $4-5 million out in funding requests.
v. Naming rights will cost $1 million
w. HEB said they wanted the naming rights, but the Museum has not heard back.
x. News-flyer goes out every month. Add Board members to E-blast.
7) Museum Attendance numbers
a. Discussed above
8) Non-Voting Members
a. Is committee at a place where advisory committee does or does not want to
increase number of non-voting members.
b. Committee is happy with current state of the advisory board.
9) Status of STEM area
a. Discussed above.
b. Board members may explore area after meeting
10)Google Summit
a. Ruben- Cary being trained. Google class room, google drive,
b. Google drive- similar to google docs.

a. Google summit

c. Update of Distinguished Lecture Series
d. Update on Exhibit
e. Will need to schedule a special meeting to approve Facility Improvement Plan.
