MEETING MINUTES
Call to Order: 12:06 PM by Jonda Holcomb
Roll Call:
Present: Jonda Halcomb, Scott Sutherland, E. Jay Ellington, Cary Perales, Amanda Leal, Anita
Eisenhauer, Ruben Rocha
Absent: Steve Arnold, Sonia Castillo
A. Adoption of Minutes from August 31st 2016
a. Motion to Approve was Seconded and Unanimously Accepted
B. Public Comment
a. None
C. Museum Director's Updates
a. Staff are inspecting the exhibits at the museum while also grading them.
b. Some artifacts have been listed for disposal as a result of water damage. The
museum is still putting together total costs related to water damage including dry
wall, artifacts and climate controlled cabinet areas. The Museum director and
ACM are working together to find mutually beneficial resolutions to this issue.
c. The Halloween event brought about 1,300 visitors to the museum.
d. Christmas event scheduled for December 17th 2016
e. The museum recently partnered with HEB to host a series of events for"Boo
Bash" including a cake walk, Halloween costume contests, extended hours of
operation, and membership discounts. This year's boo bash event was better
received than the previous years"haunted museum". Staff feel that their central
demographic appreciates events that are more family friendly.
D. Deaccession Items
a. All items being slated for disposal are degraded and unusable. Insurance claims
will try to replace as many items as they can. A few of the items being disposed
cannot be replaced, museum staff are still working with insurance to replace
damaged items and add new ones to take place of items that cannot be
replaced.
E. Board Retreat
a. Staff and advisory members briefly reviewed the history of finances and
management of the museum. Discussions regarding the upcoming operating
agreement and ways to improve museum attendance, relationships, exhibits and
revenues.
b. City staff will bring back an answer regarding the friends group and their role in
the Museum.
