Proposed Revisions to Museum Advisory Board Ordinance Motion to Approve as Amended (keeping number of members at nine, deleting members nominated by Friends of the Museum, increasing members in the Higher Education category to two, increasing members in the Community Advocate category to three, adding added activities five through thirteen, and accepting strikeouts), Seconded and Unanimously Accepted (Ordinance document attached) E. Meeting Adjourned at 1:04 PM Ordinance amending Chapter 2 of the Corpus Christi Code to modify Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History Advisory Board membership and expand advisory role BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. The Corpus Christi Code of Ordinance, Section 2-90 is amended by adding the following language that is underlined (added) and deleting the language that is stricken (deleted) as delineated below: Sec. 2-90. - Created; membership; terms; filling vacancies. (a) There is hereby created the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History Advisory Board which shall consist of nine (9) members. The board members shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. (b) Their terms shall run for a full three (3) years. Upon the occurrence of any vacancy, it shall be filled for the unexpired term. (c) The board members shall be selected as follows: two (2) members shall be nominated by the Friends of the Museum; and seven (7) nine members shall be nominated by the mayor who shall seek one (1) two members from higher education, two (2) members from the field of K-12 education, two (2) members from business community and two (2) three members from community advocates. Of these nine (9) members, at least one (1) member should have a background in science, technology, engineering, or math and one (1) member should have a background in history. (d) Ex officio members without vote shall include the city manager and the Superintendent of the Corpus Christi Independent School District, Calallen Independent School District, Flour Bluff Independent School District, Tuloso-Midway Independent School District, and West Oso Independent School District or their designated representative. SECTION 2. The Corpus Christi Code of Ordinance, Section 2-92 is amended by adding the following language that is underlined (added) and deleting the language that is stricken (deleted) as delineated below: Sec. 2-92. - Meetings; function. (a) The board shall hold regular meetings bimonthly and such special meetings as may be called by the chairman with notice to all members. (b) The advisory board shall serve as an advisor to the museum department City Manager and to the city council in matters of support and development of the museum The board may adopt comprehensive policies relating to the: including but not limited to the following activities: (1) Advice on management of collections; (2) Advice on acquisitions for the collections; (3) Advice on disposition and the de-acquisition of objects in and for the collection; (4) Advice on use of museum facilities; (5) Advice on museum programming; (6) Advice on project accomplishments and impact; (7) Advice on strategic plans and engagement; (8) Engagement in grant development and fundraising; (9) Advice on capital improvement projects; (10) Serve as community advocates and liaisons; (11) Generate comprehensive report of accomplishments, challenges and recommended improvements; (12) Advice on management of museum; (13) Advice on financial health of museum; When adopted by the advisory board and approved by the city manager, the director of the museum shall implement such policies. SECTION 3. This ordinance is effective immediately upon passage. Introduce Staff Approximately 234 interviews conducted. Currently 15 Full time, 8 part-time employees. 5 volunteers, 2 returning volunteers II. Museum General 1. Collection keys provided 10/22/18 2. Access to the CCMuseum Facebook, previously deleted by former management, was gained on 11/2/18 3. Files for the McGregor collection were provided to Friends on 11/6/18 4. CEO Access to K drive 12/28/18 5. Museum collection review- neglected wet specimens, mixed collection with non-collection 6. Legal title missing on numerous history artifacts/collection items 7. Four, comprehensive 2-week reports submitted to the city to date 8. Collection cabinets due to arrive 12/17/18 9. Mummy return -in discussion with Peru consulate III. Accomplishment Highlights 1. Repaired & restored POS system 2. Repaired & restored nearly every exhibit 3. 8 Homeschool Days 4. The museum received nine, 5-star reviews in past month, and appeared in 21,071 Google searches this month and presented in 49.9K total views. 5. Doc McGregor Calendars designed, developed, sponsored & produced. $6,125+ Profit 6. 5 Outreach programs 7. 10 Birthday parties 8. 1 Bridal Shoot 9. Staff shirts & jackets 10. Employee healthcare 11. Located, logged every computer, auxiliary equipment, radios. Assigned designated location. 12. Approximately 1000 unmarked keys located, logged in searchable spreadsheet. 13. New Relationships & Opportunities: Association of Technology Centers (ASTC) The museum was accepted as a member of the prestigious ASTC association. Challenger Center- The museum is in discussion regarding the establishment of the CC Museum as a Challenger Center. Smithsonian Institution- The CC Museum has applied for the prestigious affiliation. Determination is anticipated in February. Texas Association of Museums (TAM)- The membership to the Texas Association of Museums was renewed. American Alliance of Museums (AAM)- Membership to the American Alliance of Museums was renewed. A request to provide information regarding the new management was submitted.
