and Mary Longoria were excused for good cause.
Business:
a. Rick Stryker reviewed the Annual Report of the Museum Advisory Committee that was
sent to the City Council.
b. Attendance to the Museum continued to show a drop from 1998:
1998 1999
November 6,649 3,320
December 6,329 4,895
This drop is due to the visibility yet inaccessibility of the ships to Museum visitors. The
drop is reflected both in general visitors and school visitors. There was a discussion of
inexpensive measures the Museum is taking to try to rebuild the local audience that was
lost when the Museum and the Fleet operated jointly. Funds and staff time are in short
supply to address this problem.
c. Rick Stryker lead a discussion of the major issued facing the Museum in 2000
- Preparation for a site visit by the AAM accreditation Visiting Committee and especially
the issues that were identified in a review of the Museum application for accreditation,
- Construction of Discovery Hall and the associated disruption of the Museum visitor
experience,
- Completion of the Discovery Hall fund drive to support exhibits,
- Re-establishing an identity without the Columbus ships,
- Challenges associated with shrinking General Fund support and growing capital needs
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
