MINUTES
Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Advisory Committee Meeting
December 7,2000
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday, October 5,2000.
Members Present:Art Howerton,Donna Flynn, Gwen Henzi,C.W. Carpenter,Joe Martinez,
Tony Diaz, and Pat Bacak-Clements.
Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by C.W. Carpenter the minutes of the October 5,
2000 meeting were unanimously approved. (There was no meeting in November)
Upon motion by Donna Flynn and seconded by Art Howerton the absences of Pat
Bacak-Clements, C.W. Carpenter and Tony Diaz were excused for good cause.
Business:
a. Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements,the deaccession of
armadillo souvenir mounts and bird study skins were unanimously approved
b. The long awaited site inspection by the American Association of Museums Visiting
Committee to consider our request for subsequent accreditation will take place in
January 2001. It is expected that the Visiting Committee may wish to meet with
representatives of the Advisory Committee. There was a discussion of the policy issues
in which they might be interested.
c. Upon motion by Pat Bacak-Clements and seconded by Tony Diaz the revisions to the
Collection Management Policy were approved unanimously.
d. Attendance was up 18%from the record low levels experienced last November,but
revenue was down slightly. With the discontinuance of the Christmas Tree Forest by the
Art Museum, it is expected that December attendance will be down from last year.
e. Discovery Hall construction is on schedule. A change order is pending before the City
Council,but the project remains within budget and there are still some contingency funds
remaining. Along with other participants in the La Salle Odyssey Project,we have been
asked to approve a resolution supporting the concept design developed by Southwest
Museum Services. Upon motion by Tony Diaz and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements the
concept design was unanimously approved.
f Rick Stryker reported that the two Museum projects included in the bond issue passed by
the voters will begin in the near future. It is anticipated that the fire suppression system
and the temperature/humidity controls will be installed by mid 2001. The National
Geographic is preparing a map that will feature the San Esteban Collection in their May
issue.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
