Business:
a. The Committee discussed admission fees and concluded that there should be no change
in admission fees at this time. The fees were adjusted downward in 1999 when the
Columbus ships closed and the subsequent drop in attendance was not thought to be the
result of the fees being too high. The Committee discussed a variety of other fees and
listened to staff recommendations regarding changes. These will be brought back to the
Committee in March for action.
b. Upon motion by Tony Diaz and seconded by Art Howerton a new fee structure was
adopted for facility rentals. They will be sent to the City Manager for his approval.
c. The Visiting Committee for American Association of Museums accreditation will be at
the Museum February 15 and 16. There will be a meeting to discuss governance issues
with representatives of the Advisory Committee,Friends Board, and Auxiliary Board on
February 15. Gwen Henzi and Mary Longoria will represent the Advisory Committee.
There was a discussion of the issues that would likely be discussed at that meeting.
d. The time is approaching when the public opening event for Discovery Hall needs to be
planned. Mary Longoria,Tony Diaz, and Donna Flynn volunteered to help plan that
event. After construction of the building is completed, there will be some time required
to complete the installation of the ceiling. As soon as the date can be established with
some certainly, a meeting will be called
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
After adjournment the Committee toured the Discovery Hall construction site.
