The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday ay 3,B90dE y/
Members Present: Henry Brennecke,Art Howerton, Gwen Henzi,Joe Marti +• Yat Bacak-
Clements, Tony Diaz,Mary Longoria,Anna Peterson,and Alex Sadovski. -Zetzoze4¢`"
Upon motion by Tony Diaz and seconded by Art Howerton the minutes of the March 15,2001
meeting were unanimously approved.
Upon motion by Mary Longoria and seconded by Joe Martinez the absence of Pat Bacak-
Clements was excused for good cause.
New member Anna Peterson was welcomed to the Committee.
Business:
a. Upon motion by Mary Longoria and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements the operating plan
and fee structure for the Columbus ship tours and maintenance was approved
unanimously.
b. There was discussion of the plan for the opening of the Cultural Encounters Gallery.
The Mayor and Council and members of the Advisory Committee will participate in
a ribbon cutting on May le at 11 a.m. School children touring the Museum at that time
will be given the opportunity to participate and will be given cookies.
c. A presentation on the exhibit approach for the Cultural Encounters Gallery was
postponed to a later date.
d. Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by Mary Longoria the Advisory Committee
unanimously recommended that the City Council support the budget request submitted
by the Museum Director to the City Manager. While there were a number of
supplemental budget requests in need of funding,the Committee particularly
recommended that the Council give serious consideration to funding the Corpus Christi
sesquicentennial exhibit proposed for 2002.
e. It was reported that the Environmental Programs Department of the City has moved into
the Museum offices formerly occupied by the Columbus Fleet Association. The Art and
the Animal exhibit will open at both the Art Museum and the Museum of Science and
History on June 15i°. There will be a reception for City Boards,Commission and
Committees hosted by the Mayor and Council on May 24"'. Invitations will be mailed by
the City Secretary's office.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
