Business:
a. Convention Center Director Hal Peterson presented the conceptual plan for expanding
the Convention Center and constructing an arena adjacent to it. There was a period
devoted to questions and discussion. Of particular interest to the Museum was the
reintroduction of vehicular traffic from Shoreline Boulevard to the Watergarden, issues
associated with the elimination of parking from around the Watergarden, and the
apparent need to redevelop Port Avenue to provide for the anticipated increased traffic.
b. Due to technical problems with the digital projector,Bob Drolet and Jane Deisler-Seno
were unable to present their research for Cultural Encounters Gallery exhibits. This will
be rescheduled for the August meeting.
c. There was a report and discussion from those who were able to attend the preview and
opening of the Cultural Encounters Gallery. There was very good attendance at both
events and considerable public interest associated with completion of the Gallery. Since
the Columbus ships opened there has been a marked increase in attendance. Although
there is a long way to go on ship maintenance, they am open to the public and response
has been positive.
d. A report of the third quarter Service Objectives and Performance Measures was given to
each member present. The Art and the Animal exhibit will open at both the Art Museum
and the Museum of Science and History on June 15". There was a reception for City
Boards, Commission and Committees hosted by the Mayor and Council on May 24".
Only Lynda Falconer was able to attend from the Museum Advisory Committee. In
appreciation for valuable service to the City and the Museum, each Committee Member
was given a pen/box set.
e. It was decided that the Committee would not meet in July due to the proximity of
the normal meeting date with the 4th of July holiday. The next meeting will be
August 2od.
