Business:
a. The Museum has been pursuing five"Solutions"-goals to redeveloping a distinct identity
for the Museum and regaining the audience lost through five years of working in tandem
with the Columbus Fleet Association. Rick Stryker outlined the strategies pursued in the
past year to implement these Solutions.
b. It was contemplated at the September meeting that the Museum's present mission and
the long range plan could be left in place as the staff and volunteers of the Museum
continued to pursue the five Solutions. However, this work requires a radical shifting of
priorities for the staff. Rick Stryker presented a new plan of work in which he directed
the staff to change their priorities. The fundamental shift admonished collections staff to
place a lower priority on collections work except as it related directly to exhibits and to
spend the bulk of their time maintaining and developing exhibits and programs. The
Lead Preparator and Museum Educator are now reporting directly to the Museum
Director so that they can effectively lead staff teams addressing these priorities. After a
discussion and upon motion by Lynda Falconer, seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements,the
Committee unanimously approved the new plan of work.
c. Program and exhibit support for the Museum comes from private contributions through
the Friends and the Auxiliary. There was a discussion about the limitation of that
funding. A number of projects are underway that will require much of the available,
funds(e.g. Cultural Encounters exhibit and Sesquicentennial exhibit)while some
projects will have to wait until funds are available(e.g. Shoop's Grill mural
conservation).
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
