The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday,Waiyember 1, 2001. `5°.

Upon motion by Kathy Heymann and seconded by Art Howerton the minutes of the December 6,
2001 meeting were unanimously approved. Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by
Kathy Heymann, the absences of Pat Bacak-Clements, Hank Brennecke,Kathy Heymann, and
Joe Martinez were excused for good cause.
Business:
a. Upon motion by Kathy Heymann and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements,the Committee
unanimously approved the waiver of rental fees for the use of the Museum for the
Whataburger Cactus Bowl event. Although the Cactus Bowl is a fund raising event,the
event at the Museum is not specifically for that purpose. The Committee also discussed
the possibility of participating in Buccaneer Days. If there is an accompanying fund
raising event, it would be sponsored by the Friends for the benefit of the ships.
b. The St. Nicholas Night event on December 4'h drew over 500 participants About one
third were associated with the musical groups performing from Carroll High School. The
event for next year will be smaller and will target members. A community open house is
under consideration for a Sunday in December,but it will be held separately. More
members events are needed to sustain a strong membership base.
The schedule for the Winter Lecture Series (January-March)was distributed., This is an
annual effort targeting adult audiences providing topics of local interest.
Attendance and revenue continue to be up over the same period last year largely due to
the reopening of the Columbus ships. The monthly report for November indicates that
the ships are paying their own way and monthly attendance was up 40%
c. There was a discussion of Museum development activities including
- publication by the Friends of the 2002 McGregor calendar which is designed to
stimulate annual giving to the Museum
-restoration of one of the Shoop's Grill murals (viewed after the meeting)which was
restored by the Friends. Attempts to raise money for the other three murak was no
successful. The murals hang in the Ortiz Center at the Port of Corpus Christi.
- a grant was submitted to the Coastal Impact Assistance Program by the Odyssey
coalition to help fund the exhibits
- The Coastal Bend Community Foundation granted the Friends$5,000 to support the
Corpus Christi sequicentennial exhibit planned to open in September,2002
-the Coastal Bend Community Foundation granted the Friends$4,000 to support the
haul-out and bottom job for Nina.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
