Advisory Committee Meeting •1'
April 3,2003
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday, April 3, 2003.
Members Present: Hank Brennecke, Grady Price Blount, Tony Diaz, Lynda Falconer, Sharon
Brower, Anna Peterson and Alex Sadovski.
Upon motion by Grady Price-Blount and seconded by Tony Diaz, the minutes of the March 6,
2003 meeting were unanimously approved.
Business:
a. Budget cutbacks to State universities have made it unlikely that Texas A &M—Corpus
Christi and Kingsville will continue relationships will adjunct professors in the short
term. This means that we will no longer be able to offer anthropology courses through
the Universities, including the summer field school. It will mean the reduction in revenue
from these programs of$10,000 to $15,000 per year.
b. The governments of France and the US will sign an agreement that acknowledges that the
La Belle collection belongs to France. Responsibility for the collection will fall to the
Musee national de la Marine. That museum will enter into an agreement with the Texas
Historical Commission giving them responsibility for the collection. The Historical
Commission has already named the Corpus Christi Museum repository for the
collections. The director of the Musee national de la Marine, Admiral Georges
Prud'homme, will come to Corpus Christi to inspect the Corpus Christi Museum on April
4th
.
c. Museum attendance is 6%below the level of last year through the first eight months of
the fiscal year. Admission revenue has been down every month since April, 2002. this
minors the experience of museums from coast to coast.
d. One of the teachers(from Flour Bluff ISD) who will develop curriculum guides for the
Corpus Christi History exhibit has been selected. Two more remain to be identified
(from CCISD and Tuloso-Midway ISD). It is expected that the work will be done from
mid June through mid July. This will enable a curriculum guide to be ready for teacher
use next school year.
e. Interviews have been set up for Natural History Collection Manager and Science Curator.
It is hope that both of these positions will be filled in the near future. The History
Collection Manager recently resigned. It is hoped that recruitment can begin soon.
f. Aalbert Heine, the first director of the Corpus Christi Museum passed away on March
24'h. He served for 27 years in that capacity.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
