Business:
A. Staff reports
• Rick Stryker gave each member a copy of the slides used to present the General Fund
Revenues and Expenditures to the City Council alongwith the slide representing the
Museum. Accompanying this was a copy of the report to the City Council reflecting the
performance measures for the Museum through three-quarters of the fiscal year. These
performance measures are used by the City Manager and City Council to determine the
effectiveness and efficiency with which Museum funding is used to address the "major
strategies and organizational priorities"of the City in fulfilling the mission of the
Museum. Mr. Stryker reported on a reorganization of the staff to better address the work
plan priorities contemplated by the performance measures. A page out of the Public
Attitudes Toward City Services: The 2004 Citizen Survey was also provided. The full
survey is available on the City web site: www.cctexas.com.
• A report from the Guardian Newspapers on a Museums Association of Great Britain
Inquiry on "Collections for the Future"was distributed. "British museums are being
challenged to get their collections on view and in use or get rid of them..." This media
report was an overstatement of what is really happening, but provides a broader
perspective to the self examination underway at the Corpus Christi Museum. This should
also be a factor in the re-examination of the Museum's mission.
• Mr. Stryker reported on a series of meetings on June 8th with City Manager Skip Noe,
James Goold representing the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., and Julio
Montesino, Consul General of Spain from Houston. After a tour of the Museum and the
ships the planning process that is underway for the Museum, including the ships was
discussed. Mr. Goold and Mr. Montesino were invited to participate. Monthly reports on
operations of the ships including reports on the planning will continue to be sent to the
Embassy. The visualized concept study for which funding is presently being sought was
generally felt to be the pivotal step to determine the future of the ships, the museum, and
the museum district. On the basis of this study a master plan will be developed and hinds
will be raised to implement the master plan.
B. There was an extended discussion on the process that should be used to develop a new
mission for the Museum. It was decided that a facilitated retreat should be held to enable the

input of all members of the Friends Board and Advisory Committee. An open ended process was
called for because it is anticipated that a new mission might diverge in significant ways from the
mission that has guided the Museum for the past twenty years. After the retreat, a committee will
be appointed to draft a mission that will then be discussed and approved by the entire group. The
first choice date and time for the retreat was the evening of July 20th There will be a brief tour of
the Museum before the retreat for those interested. The retreat should last no longer than about
three hours.
C. Bill Richmond reviewed and solicited input into the Program Satisfaction Survey that he
drafted with input from Museum staff The intent of the survey was to solicit community input
into planning for the future of the Museum and determine attitudes about the Museum from
community. It will be a web based survey. There were many suggested groups of people whose
input could be solicited. There was discussion and several suggestions for improvements to the
questions. The number of questions was purposely limited to encourage the widest possible
participation.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
