Meredith, Phyllis Riddle, Alex Sadovski, and Linda Scott.
The minutes of the September I, 2005 meeting were approved and presented.
Upon motion by Grady Price Blount and seconded by Linda Scott the absences of Alex Sadovski
were excused for good cause.
Chairman's remarks: Phyllis Riddle introduced and welcomed new member Randall Meredith
who indicated he was pleased and honored to serve. Phyllis then announced the reappointment
of Cheryl Gillenwater and Grady Price Blount and thanked Joe Martinez and Randy Lara whose
terms had expired for their service to the Museum and the City of Corpus Christi.
Business:
a. Phyllis declined consideration for another term as Chair of the Committee. Grady Price Blount
was nominated as the new Chair and Cheryl Gillenwater was nominated as the new Vice Chair.
They were unanimously elected.
b. Rick Stryker reported that the staff of the Texas Historical Commission, after considering the
application and self study submitted by the Museum and conducting a site visit on September 7th,
recommended that the Museum be certified as a state archeology repository. The Commission
will consider this recommendation at their quarterly meeting in Jefferson later this month. Upon
approval, the Museum will be the first repository certified under this mandatory new program.
Rick reported that the Museum was offering free admission to all those displaced by hurricanes
Katrina and Rita through the end of October.
Rick is representing the City, the CVB, and the Nueces County Historical Commission in the
development of the State funded Texas Tropical Trail. The mission of this program is to
identify, preserve, and interpret the natural, historic, and cultural resources of 20 counties in
South Texas through partnerships with other historical and tourism organizations, as well as
community leaders, and state and local entities. The Texas Historical Commission staff will do
site evaluations in Nueces County between November 7 and 11 to develop recommendations
regarding how county resources might be more successful serving tourists.
Committee members each received a copy of the Preliminary Report from the 2005 Archaeology
Field School. It was suggested that the report be put on the Museum web site.
c. There was a long discussion of the measurable objectives that might be accomplished through
implementation of the new mission. Rick was asked to review the distributed draft objectives.

Anadelia Gonzalez at TAMU-CC. Dr. Gonzalez suggested some resource people at the
University who would likely be willing to help in the development of the cultural story and she
suggested a number of topics that could be included. Grady recommended the inclusion of the
Cabeza de Vaca story to the cultural history story line.
After discussion, Rick was asked to provide an electronic version of the "Advisory Committee
Issues— 10-6-05" that had been distributed in written form. Committee members were asked to
use this to provide a common format from which they could individually develop measurable
objectives based on the Mission and the discussion at the meeting. Members are asked to bring
their individual thoughts to the next meeting for discussion and distillation into one common set
of measurable objectives that might be adopted.
One way that the objectives might be measured is as part of the visitor survey to find out from
actual visitors whether their experience matched our objectives.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
