on Thursday, March 13th. Members Present: Grady Price Blount, Margaret Bolick, n
Brower, Cheryl Gillenwater, Phyllis Riddle, Alex Sadovski, Linda Scott, and Linda Tomo.
The minutes of the March 2, 2006 meeting were approved as presented. Upon motion by Phyllis
Riddle and seconded by Linda Scott the absences of Grady Price Blount, Sharon Brower, Cheryl
Gillenwater, and Alex Sadovski were approved for good cause.
Chairman's remarks: Grady announced that he has been appointed Dean of Science at Angelo
State University and will be leaving the community and resigning from the Advisory Committee.
Vice chair Cheryl Gillenwater will assume the chairmanship until new elections are held.
Members were reminded that they need to complete the open meetings act training which is
available on line and through a CD that Rick provided.
Business:
a. The presentation by Raymond Gignac of the Bayfront Improvement Plan was postponed until
the May meeting due to some pending revisions in the plan.
b. Upon motion by Alex Sadovcki and seconded by Cheryl Gillenwater, the Committee
Unanimously recommended that the City Manager include full funding for the proposed FY
2006/07 Museum budget to the City Council including the supplemental funding for making the
preparator position a full time position and the repair and replacement of Museum mechanical
equipment which would reduce the energy cost for the Museum.
c. Rick Stryker provided results of visitor surveys for the fiscal year through March 2006. He
also provided the plan for a new driveway through the Watergarden requested by the Art
Museum to accommodate their new entrance to the Legoretta Building.
d. Rick then led the Committee through a discussion based on charts comparing audience and
attendance for the years 2005, 1999, and 1994.
Local
Local audience dropped by almost 50% between 1994 and 1999,but increased slightly through
2005. The local audience drop was influenced, at least initially,by increases in admission ticket
prices associated with affiliation with the Columbus Fleet Association.
Texas
Texas audience diminished slightly from 1994 through 1999 then dropped by nearly 50% through
2005. The Texas audience decline is heavily influenced by the marketing strategies pursued by
the Convention and Visitors Bureau which benefits attractions and visitor service facilities that
have the resources to participate in co-op marketing.
SCANNED
School
School audience dropped by 29%through 1999 and then by 40% through 2005. The school
audience decline is heavily influenced by changes in the economic priorities and TEKS driven
academic priorities of schools.
Meetings and Events
At the same time that the audience of Museum visitors declined, the use of the Museum by others
for meetings, special events and parties increased also reflected in earned revenue from these
activities. There were 293 such uses of Museum facilities by outside groups in 2005.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
