on Thursday, December 6, 2007. Members Present: Margaret Bolick, Jamie Duff, Luella

2007 meeting were approved as presented.
Chairman Nelida Ortiz reminded new members that they needed to complete the Texas Open
Meetings Act training by December 10th.
Business:
a. Appelbaum Study Implementation
Both Appelbaum Associates(9/07) and Sisaki Associates(10/06)recommended signage, street
and parking enhancements along with acquisition of the Corps of Engineers site as prerequisites
to a significant investment in improvements to the Museum. Without better access and visibility,
the vision for the future of the Museum will have to be scaled back significantly. The Friends
Board of Directors has decided that proceeding with the next steps (development of a business
plan and proceeding with the funding feasibility study) should be contingent upon the inclusion
of funding for the Appelbam and Sisaki neighborhood enhancements in the 2008 Bond issue.
Upon motion by Margaret Bolick and seconded by Tom Kimes the Committee unanimously
approved a motion that Chair Nelida Ortiz draft a letter to the Mayor and Council requesting
inclusion of the access and visibility enhancements proposed by Appelbaum and Sasaki in the
2008 Bond Issue.
b. Rick Stryker reviewed the Museum projects listed in the Capital Improvement Program wish
list. The list includes urgent needs for repair and replacement of significant components in the
HVA/C system and a new roof. The cost of these deferred maintenance items has risen to nearly
$2 million. Even if implemented in the most expeditious manner possible, the proposed new
museum facility would not be completed until 2013. In the interim the community's
irreplaceable collection of artifacts and scientific collections entrusted to the care of the Museum
are endangered by the Museum's limited ability to control temperature and humidity and the
danger from water leaks when it rains. Upon motion by Margaret Bolick and seconded by Jim
Moloney the Committee unanimously approved a motion that the Mayor and City Council give
due consideration to the urgent capital needs of the Museum both in the FY 2007/08 CIP
program and in the 2008 Bond Issue.
c. There was a review of the"2007 Archaeology Field School Preliminary Report"and a
discussion of the archaeology program issues.
