Members Present: Margaret Bolick, GO Gasaway, Jonda Halcomb, Kimberly Harris, Robert Hatherill, Kathy Juneau, Tom Kimes, Nelida Ortiz, Luci Sosa, and Linda Tomo. Upon motion by Linda Tomo and seconded by Tom Kimes, the minutes of the August 7, 2008 meeting were approved as presented. Business: a. During discussion of the potential uses for the recently acquired Smithsonian's poster exhibit,Earth From Space Committee members recommended that the online learning resources at www.earthfromspace.si.edu be linked to the Museum web site. It was also recommended that the exhibit be offered as an outreach opportunity to libraries. b. Upon motion by Margaret Bolick and seconded by Kimberly Harris the Committee unanimously approved an initiative on the part of the Museum to participate more fully in marketing and improving regional cultural heritage resources through the Texas Tropical Trail Region and approved an initiative to start a Coastal Bend cultural heritage consortium to develop collaborative marketing strategies. c. Rick Stryker reported on the anticipated City Council action at the September 9 meeting to accept the"Museums for American" grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services in the amount of$150,000 to support acquisition of the exhibit Voyage: A Journey through our Solar System. d. The Committee reviewed graphs showing increased public participation and media attention associated with the summer's intensive experience enhancement programming. e. The Committee was reminded of the inclusion of Museum items in Proposition Five, Public Facilities in the Bond 2008 package that will go to the voters in November. I Staff Reports • The Committee reviewed a report taken from FY 2007/08 visitor surveys. • CCISD filmed an episode of the Learning Zone Show at the Museum. • Two position vacancies would be retained to enable the Museum to meet an anticipated shortfall in next fiscal year's budget.
