Members Present: Gene Pennebaker, Alda Klett, Art Howerton,

Absent: Debbie Newman.
1. The meeting was called to order by Chair Alicia Perez.
2 . The minutes of the November 7, 1991 meeting were approved
as written.
2a. The absences of Ruth O'Brien from the last meeting and of
Cindy Gamez and Linda Mora Cano from the last two meetings were
excused for good cause.
3 . Nominations to the Advisory Committee were discussed. It
was decided that Advisory Committee members would contact those
they think might be interested and suggest that they contact the
City Secretary and fill out the required form. This vacancy is
a mayoral appointment which requires City Council consent.
4a. The contract with Dinamation for Dinosaurs of the Deep was
approved last month by the City Council. The exhibit fee
schedule must be adopted by the Committee and then sent to the
City Manager for his approval . The Committee unanimously
approved the fee schedule of $4 . 75 for adults and $3 . 00 for
children, ages 2-12 (discounted for children in school groups) .
4b. The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is a
member of the American Association of Museums. A new Code of
Ethics for Museums was written and distributed by AAM which we,
as members, are required to adopt. However, there has been much
dissension by member museums, and the deadline for adoption has
been extended to January 1, 1993 . The main issue seems to be
deviation from current policy regarding deaccessioning. It was
decided that Rick Stryker should express this museum' s concern
regarding this issue to the president of AAM. Mr. Stryker
stated this issue would be discussed at the next meeting of the
TAM in San Antonio in April. The Committee also asked that Mr.
Stryker go through this Code of Ethics one item at a time and
give the Advisory Committee a 10-15 minute summary of an
individual item at each month ' s meeting.
4c. Rick Stryker advised that the draft given to each Committee
member outlined goals that reflect the interests of the Long
Range Planning Committee. He gave a short summary of each goal,
highlighting improving the permanent exhibits, forming an
exhibit committee, marketing of the Museum, and hosting
blockbuster exhibits . Dr. Cano brought to the Committee' s

attention the fact that the school year for some schools will be
changing to 12 months . This will affect the Museum. A decision
will be made before the end of this school term regarding how
many schools will be affected by this change. Dr. Cano advised
she would keep us informed.
4d. Of six applications for the archeologist position none
meets all of the qualifications stipulated. The recruitment
period ha: - been extended to February 1. Also, we are
negotiating a possible affiliation agreement with Ships of
Discovery, a self funded marine archeology concern presently
located in Dallas . It is possible that we might affiliate with
them in lieu of hiring an archeologist provided they can meet
our needs . They are a self-funded marine archeology agency.
Due to the holidays, the next meeting was scheduled for Jan. 9.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting
adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
