Thursday, May 5, 1994 . Members Present: Aliciarez [ Alda j
Klett, Sharon Brower, Ruth O'Brien, Deborah Kobelan, • ,-n Henzi, b'
Gene Pennebaker, Delbert Hooper, Susie Sedwick, and Dwa Wti
Members Absent: Dr. Linda Mora and Cindy Gamez .
Chair Alicia Perez called the meeting to order . The minutes of
the April 7, 1994 meeting were unanimously approved as written .
The absences of Susie Sedwick and Dwayne Dean from the last
meeting were approved for good cause .
4a. Mr . Stryker advised that the RTA staff is recommending a
seasonal expansion of the Water Taxi into the Spring . However,
this is not corresponding directly with what the Museum and the
Fleet want to achieve. Mr . Stryker is also campaigning with
them on Scenic Trail trolley service on Sunday as well as making
some sort of connection with the Museum for the staff who ride
the bus . The next step is for Advisory Committee board members
to meet with an RTA board member.
4b. The Summer Program schedule will go to schools next week.
Two teachers have been hired to teach these classes . The summer
exhibit Texas Folk Art opens May 20 and continues through August
28 . There will be a gallery theater with this exhibit . Again,
it will be a low-key opening, but the activity level will be
high. Invitations will be mailed May 6 .
In association with the Columbus Fleet and the Aquarium, the
Museum will extend its summer hours to 6 : 00 p.m. , 7 days a week,
beginning May 27 .
The Museum, along with the Columbus Fleet, will be hosting a
"hospitality month" in May . We are providing free passes to
front desk personnel at local hotels and motels . We will be
tracking who takes advantage of this offer. Mr. Stryker is also
scheduled to speak at the Hotel Managers Association meeting next
week. Susie Sedwick suggested that downtown restaurants also be
considered for inclusion in this program. The idea is that these
front line people, after having enjoyed tours of these attrac-
tions, will be better able to encourage tourists to visit them.
4c . Mr. Stryker gave an in-depth presentation on the new setup
for the Seeds of Change exhibit . The archway to enter the North
Building will be the Seeds archway. There will be more artifacts
in the Kenedy gallery. This exhibit will be very focused on our
Native American and ranching heritage collections . We are
currently working with KEDT to put McGregor photos together to
make a video of the history of Corpus Christi which will be part
of this exhibit . Susie Sedwick made a motion that this new
concept be approved. Gwen Henzi seconded the motion, and the
Advisory Committee voted unanimously to approve it .

Christi Beach. Chaparral Street will be used as a gateway to the
Museum. This whole sign system will be reflected in brochures
being put together by the CVB.
4e . The xeriscape berm has been planted. Ruth O'Brien advised
that the first planting went very well and that there will be a
second planting on May 21 . This will be a small one, but it is
important . If you have not yet bought your brick, please plan to
do so. (Ruth reminded everyone that Father' s Day is coming up . )
With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at
