Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Advisory Committee Meeting
January 7, 1999
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday,January 7, 1999.
Members Present: Hank Brennecke,Woody Riley,Kathy Heymann,Art Howerton, Gwen
Henzi,Mary Longoria,Tony Diaz and C.W. Carpenter. Also present from CCISD was Lola
Farmer.
Upon motion by Tony Diaz and seconded by Art Howerton, the minutes of the December 3, 1998
meeting were approved unanimously.
Upon motion by Mary Longoria and seconded by Art Howerton the absences from the December
3 meeting of Tony Diaz and C.W.Carpenter were excused for good cause.
Business:
a. Upon motion by Art Howerton, seconded by Tony Diaz and approved unanimously the
Facility Rental Policy was revised to permit the use of museum facility for specific special events
such as wedding receptions.
b. Upon motion by C.W.Carpenter,seconded by Art Howerton, the deaccession of military
artifacts that were mistakenly acc, 3sioned was unanimously approved. �=
c. After some discussion, the consensus of the Museum Advisory Committee was that Chip
Jeffries from Appelbaum and Associates ought to be invited down to present his Report and
Proposal for Planning Services to a gathering of those interested in fundamental changes for the
Museum. There was general agreement that changes in the layout of the Museum and changes to
the present approach to exhibits needed to change. While exhibits should be based on collections,
there are other valid approaches that could be adopted.
d. Rick Stryker reported on the process being followed to develop the design for Discovery
Hall with architect John Dykema and the process being followed to restore and install the Palencia
Ceiling with conservator Steve Pine.
Them being no further business the meeting adjoumed at 1:15 p.m.
