HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Museum Of Science And History Advisory Committee - 02/04/1999 v v MINUTES Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History F , Advisory Committee Meeting I - Fel February 4, 1999 I 1= The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday,February 4, 1999. Members Present: Hank Brennecke,Woody Riley,Kathy Heymann, An Howerton,Gwen Henzi,Mary Longoria,Donna Flynn,Tony Diaz,C.W. Carpenter and Evelyn Gonzales. Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by Woody Riley, the minutes of the January 7, 1999 meeting were approved unanimously. Business: a. The Lexington Museum and the Texas State Aquarium have raised their admission fees. The Admission fee ordinance requires that the Museum charge comparable fees. There was a discussion regarding how the Museum and Columbus Fleet should respond. At the next meeting the Committee will consider. - increasing the adult rate from $8.00 to$8.75 to match the Aquarium -Either raise the Youth rate from$7.00 to $7.75 like the Aquarium or increase it to the adult rate like the Lexington -Leave the Senior/Military rate at$6.50 which is lower than the other entities -Consider increasing the child rate to$5.00 from the present$4.00 along with implementing a family discount rate b. It was the consensus of the Advisory Committee that a new approach to the exhibit plan was needed and that a new master plan ought to be developed. With funding, an outside consultant could be hired to develop the master plan in a matter of several months. The alternative would be for the staff to develop the plan over a longer period of time. Since funding was the issue the Committee deferred the decision to the Friends Board who would have to fund the consultant. c. There is no further progress to report on the development of the Harbor Area. d. Proposed schematic plans for the Discovery Hall addition are expected to be completed by the next meeting date.
