Advisory Committee Meeting
March 4,1999
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday, March 4, 1999.
Members Present: Hank Brennecke,Woody Riley, Art Howerton, Mary Longoria, Donna Flynn,
Tony Diaz, Pat Bacak-Clements, C.W. Carpenter and Evelyn Gonzales.
Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by C.W. Carpenter, the minutes of the February 4,
1999 meeting were approved unanimously.
Upon motion by Donna Flynn, seconded by Art Howerton, the absence of Pat Bacak-Clements
from the January and February meetings were excused for good cause.
Business:
a. The Lexington and Aquarium have both increased admission rates. Rejecting a similar
action, Museum staff recommended adoption of lower, off-season rates. Attendance
drops over the past two years coupled with high satisfaction rates reflected in a survey of
visitors, suggest that the Museum and Fleet are over-priced. Upon motion by Hank
Brennecke, seconded by C.W. Carpenter,an off-season discounted admission rate
structure was unanimously approved through May 31. It will be reviewed at the June
meeting to determine whether it should be extended through the summer. Before going
into effect it must be approved by the Columbus Fleet Association Board and the City
Manager.
b. Rick Stryker presented the Discovery Hall schematic design which was recently completed
by architects Bright +Dykemas.
c. Rick Stryker reported on the recent City department heads retreat and shared some of the
new perspectives on the three main topics of the retreat: quality service, emergency
management, and budget priorities and processes.
d. The Advisory Committee was then taken to a collection storage area to look at a section
of the mud6jar ceiling that has been mocked up for study.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
