Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Advisory Committee Meeting
May 6, 1999
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday, May 6, 1999.
Members Present: Henry Brennecke,Woody Riley, Kathy Heymann, Art Howerton.Gwen
Henzi, Mary Longoria, Donna Flynn, Tony Diaz, Pat Bacak-Clements, C.W. Carpenter, and
Evelyn Farias-Gonzales.
Upon motion by C.W. Carpenter and seconded by Donna Flynn, the minutes of the Arpil 1, 1999
meeting were approved unanimously.
Upon motion by Art Howerton, seconded by Kathy Heymann, the absences of Hank Brennecke,
Mary Longoria,C.W. Carpenter, and Evelyn Farias-Gonzales were unanimously excused for good
cause. Upon motion by Kathy Heymann and seconded by Mary Longoria the absence of Donna
Flynn from the January meeting was unanimously excused for good cause.
Business:
a. Jane Deisler-Seno presented the proposed deaccession of a large number of frozen bird
carcasses. Upon motion by Mary Longoria, seconded by Art Howerton, the Committee
unanimously approved the staff recommended deaccession.
b. Rick Stryker explained the process that was followed to prepare the proposed museum
budget for the 1999-00 fiscal year. As submitted for the City Manager's approval, there is no
growth or reduction in the budget. The Manager will consider the Museum's proposed budget
along with other General Fund departments in preparing his proposed budget to the City Council.
Upon motion by Art Howerton, and seconded by Evelyn Farias-Gonzales, the Advisory
Committee unanimously approved the proposed Museum budget.
c. The Committee discussed long range plans-considering the implications of various
options apparently being considered by the Columbus Fleet, the development of the Bayfront Arts
and Sciences Park area, and the pending focus group planning session sponsored by the Friends of
the Museum to seek community input into the exhibit master plan.
d. Rick Stryker discussed staffing changes due to recent retirements and resignations.
e. It was agreed that the June meeting would be changed to the second Thursday, June 10
due to Rick Stryker's need to be out of town on the first Thursday. The schedule of the July
meeting will be reviewed at the June meeting.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
