Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Advisory Committee Meeting IS
August 5, 1999
The Museum Advisory Committee met in the Museum at Noon on Thursday, June10, 1999.
Members Present: Henry Brennecke, Art Howerton, Kathy Heymann, Donna Flynn, Tony Diaz,
Pat Bacak-Clements, and Mary G. Longoria.
Upon motion by Donna Flynn and seconded by Tony Diaz, the minutes of the June 10, 1999
meeting were approved unanimously.
Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by Kathy Heymann the absences of Donna Flynn,
Mary Longoria, and Tony Diaz were excused for good cause.
Nora Moreno was introduced as the new Science Consultant for CCISD.
Business:
a. Herb Canales, Director of Libraries for the City of Corpus Christi described the new Janet
Harte Library in Flour Bluff which will have a 500 square foot exhibition gallery for cultural and
student exhibits. He also told of the Library's efforts to improve its collections of primary
resource material relative to the Spanish colonial period from Mexican archives. It hoped that the
Library and the Museum will cooperate in making cultural resources more accessible to the
public. There are funding sources that could be approached to support such cooperation. The
Museum might be able to create exhibits for the Library while the resources of the Library might
be made available on computer terminal in Museum exhibit areas. Rick Stryker demonstrated a
CD ROM created by the Museum that contained images from the Doc McGregor Collection
which will be made available to patrons of the Library. The first CD ROM is expected to be
completed this year.
b. The discussion of the input from the focus group session was tabled until the September
meeting.
c. Rick Stryker presented the plans that are now completed through the design development
phase for Discovery Hall. It is expected that they will be presented to the City Council in
September.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
