Upon motion by Mary Longoria and seconded by Hank Brennecke the absences of Pat Bacak- Clements and C.W. Carpetner were unanimously excused for good cause. Chairman's remarks: Gwen Henzi congratulated Pat Bacak-Clements, Kathy Heymann, and Mary Longoria for being appointed to their second three-year terms. Business: a. Doug Wade presented his landscape design for Discovery Hall. There is a$50,000 budget to implement this design. The committee then reviewed with Rick Stryker the decorative elements of the addition itself. b. The staff has been reduced by two positions effective October 1 bringing the full time staffing level down from 20 to 18 people. Due to illness two staff members are out for an extended period on FMLA leave (which does not permit their replacement) while another is on intermittent FMLA leave and working about half-time. The Development Director position has not yet been filled. So the actual full time staffing level is at a twenty year low - 14 people. Therefore productivity is sharply curtailed. Michael Creasy has been promoted to the Collection Manager position. c. Jane Deisler-Seno made a presentation to the committee to explain the new approach to exhibits encompassed in the World of Shells exhibit. Not only is this exhibit a display of systematic collections, it also incorporates a visible storage component, a laboratory type examination area, and interactively presented background materials that enable visitors to examine the collections in an in-depth manner. d. Jane Diesler-Seno then led a tour of the World of Shells exhibit and the conservation space where work on the Spanish ceiling continues. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m. SCANNED
