Members Present: Art Howerton, Kathy Heymann, Donna Flynn,Tony Diaz, Pat Bacak- Clements, Mary G. Longoria, and Woody Riley. Upon motion by Pat Bacak-Clements and seconded by Art Howerton the minutes of the October 6 and October 22 were unanimously approved. Upon motion by Woody Riley and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements the Committee unanimously excused the absences of Art Howerton, Donna Flynn, and Tony Diaz. Business: a. Although it is too early to draw any real conclusions, attendance for October, even with the closure of the Columbus ships on October 18, is down only 3%. It is hoped that the lower admission fee will offset the unwillingness of visitors to come to the museum with the ships closed. A new survey was devised to measure the response of visitors. It was suggested that a survey be placed on the WEB site. It was also suggested that a way be found to provide food and drinks for visitors. The availability of the WEB site and a new education strategy of offering shortened "focus" programs could also assist the Museum through what will likely be a difficult period. b. Upon Motion by Kathy Heymann and seconded by Donna Flynn a group discount rate of $ for adults and$ for accompanying children was unanimously approved. c. The Columbus Fleet Association ceased to manage the gift shop on October 15. The staff has been temporarily hired by the City. They will be permanently hired as soon as possible and that cost will be reimbursed by the Museum Auxiliary, which has again accepted responsibility for gift shop operations. Cost of purchases for resale will be born by the Auxiliary and staff supervision will be provided by the Museum. A proposed inventory buyout has been agreed to by both the Fleet and the Auxiliary. d. The bid package for Discovery Hall is complete and should be advertised soon. Conservation of the ceiling and planning for the exhibit continues. There was a discussion about providing interpretation for visitors about the ceiling and it was suggested that a video chronicle of the conservation and installation be compiled. The fund drive for the exhibit remains stalled with the development director position still vacant. It is hoped that it will be filled soon. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m. SCANNED
