Members Present: Art Howerton, Kathy Heymann,Gwen Henzi, C.W. Carpenter, Tony Diaz, Pat Bacak-Clements, and Roseanna Garza. Upon motion by Pat Bacak-Clements and seconded by Art Howerton the minutes of the November 4 meeting were unanimously approved. Upon motion by Tony Diaz and seconded by Pat Bacak-Clements the absences of Gwen Henzi and C.W. Carpenter were excused for good cause. Business: a. There was a 50% drop in attendance for November as compared to the previous November. The presence of closed Columbus ships is contributing to the drop which does not seem mitigated at all by a lower admission fee. Measures that could improve attendance by local citizens were discussed. It is hoped that issues with the ships will be resolved in the next several months. Whatever measures are actually put into place should be timed to coincide with the busier season which begins in March. b. St. Nicholas Night is scheduled for December 7". The Auxiliary approved the expenditure of$1,000 for paid advertising for the event. The Museum was not able to find a major sponsor this year so the event will be costly, but it will hopefully raise the Museum profile. The first annual McGregor calendar should be ready to distribute in the next week or so. The Friends are doing their 1999 annual appeal around the calendar. c. Upon motion by Art Howerton and seconded by C.W. Carpenter the deaccession of a quantity of rocks from the collection was unanimously approved. d. With the closing of the Columbus Fleet, even the modest vending machine food service is no longer available. The possibility of introducing small scale packaged food service into the Gift Shop is being considered. e. The bid package for Discovery Hall will be advertised in December and bids opened in January. The new development director will focus on restarting the fund drive. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m. SCANNED
