Regular Meeting
June 11, 2014 5:15 p.m.

➢ The meeting was called to order at 5:17 p.m. by Carlos Haney.
➢ Roll Call
Roll call was conducted by Hope Herrera and quorum was announced. Members present: R. Barrera, C. Ford, C. Haney,
A. Hunter, J. Kim, R. Padron, H. Smith, C. Valdez Sr., and R.Woods. Staff present: Michael Morris, Stacie Talbert Anaya and
Hope Herrera. Members absent: D. Ramirez, L. Torres
➢ Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the March 121h meeting were distributed for review. A motion was made by Carlos Haney and seconded by Rita
Padron to approve the minutes as submitted. The motion was unanimously approved. Motion Carried.
Minutes approved.
➢ Public Comment — Stephanie McAliley presented the committee with a proposed idea of a Community Garden in theor
neighborhood on Edinburg St. The lot is empty because the house was on top of main water lines so the City had it
demolished and they would like to make the empty lot more appealing.
➢ Presentations for Discussion and Possible Action — Stacie Talbert Anaya on behalf of the Commission on Children and
Youth—Data Collection Report. Stacie asked to send a copy of the Date Collection Project to all members on the committee.
Rita Padron motioned to support action plan, Carlos Valdez seconded. Motion Carried.
➢ Old Business and Possible Action - Rita Padron requested a list of term expirations from Hope Herrera to be submitted to
all the board.

➢ Committee, Liaison/Staff Reports
• Finance/Marketing Task Force—No report.
• Program Development Task Force — Lots of great Summer programs are in place, sports camps, bringing in good
revenue
• TAC/Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee Liaison—Research shows more people are using bicycles to get around,
need to look into how to put in more bike lanes and get them taken care of and free of debris
• Planning & Development Task Force— No report—didn't meet
• Watershore& Beach Advisory Committee Liaison- No report
• Police Department Report—No report—Garcia transferred waiting on replacement
• Special Project Task Force—No report
• Planning Department Report—No report—didn't meet
➢ Director/Assistant Director Report—M. Morris/S.Talbert Anaya
a) Bond 2012 Update—Construction under way at Oso Bay. A bid has been requested for Bear Creek trial, HEB Tennis
Center, with Bill Witt, Parker, Billish and La Retama under the design phase.
b) 2015 Budget Preview—trying to get more operating hours for rec centers and pools for the new budget year
c) Repurpose Parks Discussion — Decommissioning these parks in November...the purposed list went out at the
beginning of the month.

➢ Adlournment -A motion was made by Carlos Haney to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Carlos Valdez. The motion
was unanimously approved. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
