HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Parks And Recreation Advisory Committee - 09/10/2014 PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Regular Meeting September 10, 2014 5:15 p.m. 6th Floor Conference Room, City Hall 1201 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, TX 78401 ➢ The meeting was called to order at 5:21 p.m. by Carlos Haney. ➢ Roll Call Roll call was conducted by Hope Herrera and quorum was announced. Members present: C. Andersen, C. Ford, C. Haney, A. Hunter, J. Kim, D. Lewis, R. Padron, J. Plemons, H. Smith, L. Torres and C. Valdez Sr. Staff present: Michael Morris, Stacie Talbert Anaya Assistant Chief Mike Markle and Hope Herrera. ➢ Approval of Minutes Minutes from the July 91h meeting were distributed for review. A motion was made by Rita Padron and seconded by Carlos Valdez, Sr. to approve the minutes as submitted. The motion was unanimously approved. Motion Carried. Minutes approved. ➢ Public Comment -none ➢ Presentations for Discussion and Possible Action — Dianna Bluntzer — Director of The Art Center of Corpus Christi presented Sherrill Park Art Donation...Alexis Hunter requested we move forward with the project...Huxley Smith second. The motion was unanimously approved. Motion carried. ➢ Old Business and Possible Action PRAC Annual Report Presentation to City Council—item tabled until October 8th meeting ➢ New Business and Possible Action Review Annual Open Records Act, By laws and Committee Assignments—items tabled until October 8th meeting ➢ Committee, Liaison/Staff Reports • Finance/Marketing Task Force—July 18th meeting—no quorum • Program Development Task Force— no meeting • TAC/Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee Liaison—no meeting • Planning & Development Task Force— no meeting • Watershore & Beach Advisory Committee Liaison —Michael Morris reported on beach erosion on N. Beach, plans to replenish sand, also discussed driving on the island • Police Department Report — Chief Mike Markle reported about cameras being put up in parks specifically Blucher Park trying to keep the homeless out. City employees will have access to view camera footage. Asked for ideas on other parks we thought needed camera coverage. Cole Park and Skate Park already have cameras installed and working. Cameras out at Oso Bay Wetlands have caught people catching and releasing animals. Camera stills given to CCPD and they have addressed the situation. • Special Project Task Force—PRAC Annual Report—item tabled for October's meeting • Planning Department Report—no meeting • Horticulture Task Force — CCISD and Junior League working on project for planting beds, sustained bids for next 5years. Make people aware of healthy eating and child obesity. Mr. Torres to bring concept to other schools. ➢ Director/Assistant Director Report—M. Morris/S.Talbert Anaya a) Bond 2012 Update— Mike gave an update on all parks in the bond including West Guth, Oso Bay, Bill Witt, Billish, Parker, Bear Creek Ditch, Hike&Bike Trail, swimming pools, HEB Tennis Center. b) Commission on Children and Youth Community Connections Forum Event Summary—Stacie gave numbers of how many participants attended and an explanation of what took place and what was covered at the forum. Several council members attended the forum and after hearing the statistics have pushed for recreation centers and pool hours to be reevaluated. ➢ Committee Member Comments/Announcements: Rita Padron, Lisa Torres, Huxley Smith, Carlos Haney and Carlos Valdez all welcomed the new members to the committee. ➢ Identify items to be placed on next agenda: a) Annual Report—tabled for October's meeting b) Review Annual Open Acts record, by laws and committee assignments—tabled for October's meeting c) Electing Officers—tabled for October's meeting d) Update on Artesian Park e) Update on Art Norman project ➢ Adjournment -A motion was made by Rita Padron to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Carlos Valdez, Sr. The motion was unanimously approved. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m.
