CALL TO ORDER OF THE PARKS& RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Chair, Sandy Billish called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. II. ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS The recording secretary called roll and announced that a quorum was present. !IL ADOPTION OF MINUTES: Regular Meeting,October 12,2005 Rome Gregorio made a motion to accept the minutes. Davie Cissna seconded. Motion passed. Per a previous discussion, Chair, Sandy Billish noted that Teresa Camilo attended the September meeting. Me erek rig Iation�s Qr her'retiremant from e cam iltee. V. BUSINESS A. PRESENTATIONS,DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION 1. Beach and Bayfront Division Summary Superintendent, Kristin Connor provided a PowerPoint presentation and summary of the activities performed by the Beach and Bayfront Divison. Questions from the committee were then answered. 2. Ulberg Park Improvements Carl Suing reported on the Windbome II project. A Kent Ulberg sculpture of two bald eagles in bronze,with a pedestal base possibly designed of fossil stone is being procured by Beautify Corpus Christi and private supporters of the Ulberg Park. The piece is to be placed in the park near Joumey's End. Greg Perkes made a motion to accept the concept. Buddy Sparks seconded. Motion passed. B. NEW BUSINESS, DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION-none C. OLD BUSINESS -none VI. COMMITTEE,LIAISON/STAFF REPORTS FINANCE/BUDGET SUB-COMMITTEE: Sandy BlUlsh and Chris Semtner lead discussion of the budget report handout. Improvements in the golf division were noted. Also, adjustments will be made to reflect the slip construction delay in the Marina dMsion. GREENS SUB-COMMITTEE: ii411110 Carl Suding reported the committee met and also discussed the budget report. There was an adjustment request from the concessionaire that is being considered. The players want cable TV in the concession area. Chris Seminar clarified that area was not part of the City's package. Sally Gavlik reported she had a meeting with Tiger Olivarez regarding First Tee. They are working on a strategy plan and new board. Ms.Gavilk pledged staff support until the program was better established. PARK DEDICATION ORDINANCE REVIEW Art Sosa reported the City is working toward larger park areas, about 5-8 acre sites. The Unified Development Plan draft was reviewed. Member comments and questions were Invited by Mr. Sosa. PLANNING DEVELOPMENT SUB-COMMITTEE: Jaime Pyle reported staff had requested funds in lieu of land recently on three eligible plats. It was requested for Art Sosa to provide a metric showing the funds vs. land ratio. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: Dorrinda Garza said the committee would like to know from staff what programs are needed, have been tried, or should be tried again. She would like to meet with staff, after the first of the year, to receive their input. DIRECTOR Sally Gavlik reported the Coastal Bend Land Trust has submitted a grant for CMP funds to assist with the development of the Oso Creek Corridor I, Vision Plan. This plan will help to address the environmental problems and economical development of the area. The Southside Rotary have honored this years four Unsung Heroes. Billy Delgado and Robert Alaniz from the Parks&Recreation Department were two of the honorees. Ms. Gavlik brought a request to rename the park on Sunnybrook by the Corpus Christi Barrios Association. Representatives will be Invited to the December meeting to make their presentation on this request. Ms. Gavlik offered the December meeting be held at the Boater's Facility. The committee agreed. (Rome Gregorio left at 8:30 pm) SPECIAL PROJECTS Billy Delgado updated the committee on the Bond 2004 park improvement projects, and the Trust Fund projects. The Northwest park area is to be reviewed by staff before the December meeting. Options will then be brought to the committee. Sally Gavlik noted the purchase of the Space Net Climber for the Nancy Todd Garrett Memorial Park. A portable, inflatable movie screen has also been purchased. Ms. Gavlik also noted the City will have use of the gym and 4 rooms at the Coles School site for programs and recreation. Billy Delgado reported a new Eagle Scout project will soon be presented to the committee. This scout would like to place shade structures at the Dick Runyon Baseball Field. ARCHITECT I PARK PLANNER Art Sosa reported the Victoria Park project is scheduled to start November 19°1. The Greystone Park plan will be presented at the December meeting. VII.
