O. Lopez, Recreation Superintendent, Carlos Mendez, Park Superintendent CALL TO ORDER: In the Chairman's temporary absence, Vice Chairman Shor Oshman called the nesting to order at 4:14 p.m. in the Committee Roan at City Hall. DISCUSSION OF aitD.TEEE GALS AND IUD= REVIEW: Mr. Gordon briefly reviewed information sent to the Committee. The Committee held a rand table di>;rn,eaion of p mmible goals for the Committee and Department. Iters such as departmental reorganization and various ordinances dealing with the department were discussed. The Mercer Report and the Committee's role as an advisory group were brought forward by various members. (Chairman McCown arrived at 4:30 p.m.) Mr. Matthews stated staff values the Committee's input and encourages them to actively participate, especially when dealing with consolidation with other agencies. He assured the Committee the staff is interested in knowing the emphasis the Committee wants to place on a particular subject so that specific reports can be provided. Chairman McCown asked that the Committee be provided with copies of staff's goals. Mr. Axel commented he felt the Committee has lost a great deal of its cohesiveness as a group and suggested a more thorough orientation of new members in the future. Mr. Matthews stated that a presentation on the status of the Mercer Report would be made at the next meeting. He also provided a brief budget overview and advised that the departmental budgets would be reviewed with the City Manager later that evening. Additional information on the condition of the department's budgets would be available for the next Committee meeting.
