HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Parks And Recreation Advisory Committee - 06/09/1993 ass-a - 1rr MINUTES PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE June 9. 1993 - 4:00 P.M, MEMBERS PRESENT: Toby Shor Oshman, Chairman,Jimmy Rodriguez, Vice-Chairman, Claude Axel, Gwen Bryant, Joe Garcia, Roger Garrison, Robert Was, Gus Ruiz, Cefe Valenzuela MEMBERS ABSENT- Jack Ratkovic, Annie Castro STAFF PRESENT- Malcolm Matthews, Director, Susan Cable, Director of Information Services/TQM CALL TO ORDER- The regular monthly meeting of the Park and Recreation Advisory Committee was called to order at 4:00 p.m. in the Committee Room at City Hall. Chairman Shor Oshman noted that a quorum was present. ACFION ON ABSENT MEMBERS- Chairman Shor Oshman explained action was needed on Mr. Ratkovic's April and June absences. During April, he had been in Austin on legislative matters on vacation at the time of the June meeting. Vice-Chairman Rodriguez moved that both absences be excused. Mr. Ruiz seconded and the motion passed unanimously. It was reported that the Committee vacancy has been filled by Ms. Annie Castro, however, she had vacation scheduled prior to appointment and was asking that her absence be approved. Mrs. Bryant moved her absence be approved. Mr. Valenzuela seconded and the motion passed unanimously. DISCUSSION OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES- Mr. Matthews introduced Ms. Susan Cable, Director of Information Services and TQM, who discussed the Committee's Goals and Objectives as established during their February meeting. The Committee discussed the role the Committee would take and also agreed that sub-committees for Community Awareness, Programs and Facilities be considered. A copy of the goals and objectives is attached. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Mr.Matthews reported that modification to the Texas Local Park Fund was approved by the Texas Legislature. He advised the FY 93-94 budget will be discussed by the Council on June 29th and the Committee's recommendation will be needed. Mr. Matthews pointed out the Southeast Area Development Plan will be on the Committee's agenda for July and asked that the Planning subcommittee meet prior to that time in order to review and make a recommendation. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT- None.
