Dees, Sr. Kathleen de la Garza STAFF: Andrew Dimas, Project Manager Kristy Glick, Recording Secretary I. Call to Order/Roll Call • A quorum was established at 4:33pm. • Members present: Jillian Becquet, Craig Thompson, Dr. Ira J. Freeman, Ernest Bert Rucker, Denise Gallimore, Dr. Christine Robbins, Dylan Farley, • Members absent: Lisa A. Garza, Randy J. Dees, Sr. II. Introduction of new commissioners: Kathleen de la Garza and Dr. Bryan Stone. III. Approval of Minutes: July 26, 2018 Meeting • Motion to approve by Craig Thompson, seconded by Denise Gallimore. Passed unanimously. IV. Discussion and Possible Action: • Awards: Commissioners discussed categories for the awards and settled tentatively on two awards: one for a building and one for a person/organization, to be given out at the end of 2018. i. Buildings recommended were: Taylor Brothers Building, The Bay Jewel – both on Mesquite Street ii. Persons/Organizations recommended were: Downtown Management District for work on the Vacant Building Ordinance and Anita Eisenhauer. iii. Friends of the Old Bayview Cemetery was recommended for an award in 2019 for the work they’ve done in 2018. iv. Mr. Dimas suggested putting out a call for additional buildings/projects. • Chairperson Becquet gave an overview of the Frontera Festival set to take place Downtown the first weekend in November. She agreed to update the Commission as planning progresses. • Grants Update: Commissioner Robbins and mark Robbins applied for and were awarded a small grant form the Pan American Roundtable to utilize two students from local colleges to review the information from the 1991 Historic Sites Survey (Green Binders), as well as an additional survey ordered by the Downtown Management District and enter the information into the app History Pin which would allow the public to search for the historic buildings from the surveys and display them on a map of the City. Later in the meeting Mr. Dimas suggested the students can enter the name of the architect in the metadata of each entry so people can search by architect. Minutes of Landmark Commission July 26, 2018 Page 2 • Projects o Mr. Dimas presented a document containing a list of buildings designed by Richard Colley; Commissioner Rucker created a list from memory of other buildings of historic significance and their architects. Mr. Dimas suggested using the lists as a starting point for future designations or awards. o Texas Historical Society Grants - The Commission will plan to secure funding matches from local foundations or grants from other organization to apply for a grant in 2019 for further historic preservation surveys. o September 29, 2018 – The City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation is hosting the 10th Annual Historic Homeowner Fair at the Pearl at the Brewery in Downtown San Antonio.
