LANDMARK COMMISSION MEETING
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI - City Hall Council Chambers

I. Call to Order/Roll Call
• A quorum was established at 4:35pm.
• Members present: Jillian Becquet, Craig Thompson, Dr. Ira J. Freeman, Randy J. Dees, Sr.,
Ernest Bert Rucker, Denise Gallimore
• Members absent: Dr. Christine Robbins, Dylan Farley, Lisa A. Garza
II. Approval of Minutes: January 25, 2018 Meeting
Motion to approve item II as listed above was made by Commissioner Denise Gallimore and
seconded by Commissioner Randy J. Dees, Sr.
III. Discussion and Possible Action:
• Update on Workshop Items:
i. Assembly of Teams
ii. Potential Awards:
1. Award can be for an organization or individual
2. Tentative schedule for Fall of 2018
3. Commissioners to bring suggestions to next meeting
iii. Projects: City Limit Signs, Main Street Program (Downtown), possible partnership
with Downtown Management District
IV. Discussion:
• Draft Vacant Building Ordinance distributed by Andrew Dimas
i. Demolition Review: Staff requests Commission sign off on a Certificate of
Appropriateness for destruction of buildings over 50 years old
ii. Staff recommends the endorsement of the ordinance
V. Staff Reports:
• Process of designating a landmark (Zoning Change)
i. Person who designed it, cultural importance, unique quality of architecture
ii. Andrew will put together a chart for the next meeting
• Section 106 Reviews (Cell Towers)
i. Approximately 75 cell towers have been erected in the City thus far
• Nueces County Courthouse
i. Purchased by a private developer with the intention of converting it into a boutique
hotel
• Materials regarding training sessions were distributed to the commissioners

• Awards
• Grant projects
• Process of designating a landmark

• Overview of February 2018 workshop
• CLG Audit: the results were mostly good, but two areas of concern were raised: an Historical
Preservation Officer should be appointed, and the Commission must meet six times a year
VII. Public comment from the audience on matters not scheduled will be heard at the end of the
commission meeting.
• Old Bayview Cemetery Update – Karen Howden, Friends of the Old Bayview Cemetery
i. Shared photos of recent efforts to reset tombstones and markers by various outside
organizations, including the Navy Chiefs organization from Naval Air Station Corpus
Christi, an several unmarked graves were found and marked

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:44p.m.
