Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for five years relating to motor
vehicle registration refusal for failure to appear or failure to pay a fine on
a traffic law violation; and authorizing an agreement with Linebarger
Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP to assist with the implementation of a
Motor Vehicle Registration Refusal Program.
Whereas, Texas Transportation Code §702.003 authorizes the Department of
Motor Vehicles to refuse to register a motor vehicle if the department receives under
a contract information from a municipality that the owner of the vehicle has an
outstanding warrant from that municipality for failure to appear or failure to pay a fine
on a complaint that involves the violation of a traffic law.
Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:
Section 1. That the City Manager or designee is hereby authorized to enter into an
interlocal government agreement between the City of Corpus Christi and the Texas
Department of Motor Vehicles, more specifically described as the "Scofflaw Services
Contract for Marking Texas Motor Vehicle Registration Records," relating to the collection
of outstanding monies owed to the City of Corpus Christi for unpaid moving traffic
violations for an initial term of five years.
Section 2. That the City Manager or designee is hereby authorized to enter into
agreement with Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, assist the City with the
implementation of a Motor Vehicle Registration Refusal Program to coincide with the
agreement to collect delinquent municipal court fines and fees.
