HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC No one from the public was in attendance. Vl. BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION 1 New Business a. Bond 2020 Wishlist Jerry Plemons had asked the committee what items they would like to see on Bond 2020. WBAC last year recommended the “hike and bike trail over the Oso” but it did not get in. That would be on our list. Darren explained to the group that you don’t want something on the bond that will not last as long as the repayment of that bond. WBAC would like to have the Cole Park Pier, number 1 and the Holly hike and bike trail number 2 on the wish list. 2. Old Business a. Update: Beach Safety & Coastal Hazards Awareness Advocacy (Rip Current Task Force) Neither Philippe nor Darren was able to attend this. Darren has backed out of this group; “it is not a City function”. Darren relayed that the City is doing all the work, the County has not done any. Darren designed and paid for the sign at Bob Hall. Philippe did say that he heard the group was going to test using a portable digital sign during Spring Break. Philippe had suggested that if conditions are favorable for Rip Currents that the sign say so but if conditions are not favorable for Rips Current, don’t use the word Rip use some other general water safety message. He said that they are trying to get the signs from TX Dot. The problem with TX Dot is that it has to do what the Federal Government says, as far as the big boards go but maybe they don’t have to with a smaller board. The hope is that TX Dot can work with the County on this. Philippe is gathering records of water related issues/problems and the majority do not involve Rip Currents. VlI. PARK AND RECREATION ACTION COMMITTEE – Jerry Plemons Jerry did not attend this meeting. 2 C:\Users\NormaD2\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Outlook\9JPE11PK\January.doc VlII. Beach Operations graded McGee Beach, as best they could, more sand is needed. On the Gulf beaches; the shower is hooked up and the dressing rooms and ramp should be in next week. There are volleyball courts going in, in front of the seawall. The pavilion should be completed in about a month. Beach Operations is getting ready for Spring Break; working on the solar restrooms, updating some of the parts. The trash cans were moved closer to the water so that visitors don’t have to cross the road to get to them. The sand is being “fluffed” in the area between the cars and the water, in hopes of this area being a good area to play in. The bollards are up at BM217/218 as the GLO wanted. Darren will put up signage, so people know that the road dead ends. There are 2 new Lifeguard kubotas, one for McGee and on e for the Gulf. X. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA 1. Spring Break Preparations 2. Update: Rip Current Task Force Xl. ADJOURNMENT As there was no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:15 pm.
