Senior Companion Program(SCP)Advisory Committee REGULAR MEETING RECEIVED ' Thursday,July 28, 2011,4:00 p.m. OCT 0 4 2011 Lindale Senior Center 3135 Swantner Drive Corpus Christi, TX ,CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE. Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during the meeting. You must first identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible when addressing the Committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes. Any person who plans to attend the meeting and may need an accommodation is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 826-3147 at least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made. MINUTES I. The Meeting was called to order at 4:25 p.m. II. Roll Call Members present: Shirley Tipton Marie Partington Apolonia Cantu Shirley Selz Isabel Odeh Debbie Crites III. Approval of Minutes Minutes for meeting of May 23, 2011 were not available. IV. Action on Absent Members—No action was taken by SCP Committee Members. V. Public Comment: SCANNED Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and. discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them to do the following: I. Make a statement of factual information. 2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry. 3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be placed on an agenda at a later date. VI. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action 1. Biographical information forms for board positions were reviewed. Names were ranked.in order of preference: Martha Wild Mary Helen Salazar Margareta Fratela William Kramer (Jonathan Mike Barlow— additional information needed before decision could be made.) It was unanimously agreed upon that Debbie.Crites would contact individuals in order of preference and submit the name of the first individual that agreed to serve to the City Council for their approval. 2. Year End Report Debbie Crites submitted Year End Report: - 80 total Senior Companions - 64,000 hours of service to 105 clients - All federal funding was spent. - Total of 63 Senior Companions at present New requirement involving finger print processing is delaying initial start date of work for Senior Companions. National Corporation of Community Services recent written audit went well. Their four recommendations have already been implemented. ‘%.1,4\`' V Criteria for)XSYs (1,044/year) have been met. service, hours/yea r 3. Recognition Event Survey Response was positive; however, results revealed that Senior Companions prefer the option of holding the Recognition Event at a Senior Citizen Center to enable guests to come free of charge or for a small fee. 4. Set Quarterly Dates for Beyond the Call of Duty Awards Deadline for first quarter nominations is September 15, 2011 to ensure Advisory Committee can review nominations during their monthly meeting at the end of the month. Awards will be presented during the Senior Companions October Meeting. 5. Event Calendar for 2011/2012: Thanksgiving Dinner— 11/17/2011 (during November's Meeting) Dates for Christmas Party and Recognition Event are yet to be announced. 6. Community Ordinance distributed to SCP Committee Members. (See Attached.) VII. Items to be placed on next agenda were identified. VIII.
