A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible when addressing the committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes. Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need accommodations is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (361) 826- 3147 at least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Minutes I. Call to Order—Meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Monica Rodriguez. II. Roll Call of Members—Members present: Marie Partington, Shirley Tipton, Apolonia Cantu, Isabel Odeh, Shirley Selz, Monica Rodriguez, and Debbie Crites. III. Approval of Minutes—October 21, 2010 minutes were approved and motioned by Marie Partington and seconded by Apolonia Cantu. Minutes from January 27, 2011 minutes were also approved. IV. Actions on Absent Members—No absent members. V. Public Comment—No public comments Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them to do the following: 1. Make a statement of factual information. 2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry; or • 3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be placed on an agenda at a later date. 4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the Program. VI. Rules on Increasing Number of Committee Members-- Isabel Odeh motioned and Marie Partington seconded to increase the membership from 7 to 9. All present agreed. SCANNED VII. Removing Committee Members—Debbie already submitted a request that Christy Martinez be removed from the committee. We are waiting on City Council to approve termination. VIII. Recognition Event—Event is not scheduled. Event is not to be shared with Senior Grandparents or any other Senior Corp program. It will be held at the Ortiz Center and will be sponsored by the Port of Corpus Christi. Debbie suggested that a client who nominates a Senior Companion of the Year award, be allowed to attend the event in case their Senior Companion wins. Guest will be charged. IX. Criteria for Earning "Beyond the Call of Duty" Patch was corrected—Monthly service awards will be voted on by peers and staff(Debbie & Linda). It was corrected that Beyond the Call of Duty award patch will be presented quarterly rather than monthly. Those recognized will be awarded certificates at the quarterly in-service meeting and then will be given their patches at the end of the year event. All members will receive service year patches for 1, 5, 10, 15 & 20 years. One Companion of the Year patch will be awarded at the end of the year. X. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action -- 1. New Committee Members—Arlene Kent with New York Life expressed interest in being considered for a position on the Advisory Committee. XI. Agenda for Next Meeting-- 1. Announce date of Annual Recognition Event for 2011. 2. Discuss dates, charges and possible sponsors to cover food. X.
