Senior Companion Program (SCP)Advisory Committee
Regular Meeting CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
October 21, 2010
Lindale Senior Center

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 4:05 p.m.
Roll Call of Members: Members present: Monica Rodriguez,Apolonia Cantu, Marie
Partington, Shirley Tipton, Debbie Crites. Members absent: Christie Martinez,Amber Sayre.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the September 30, 2010 meeting were presented. A
motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Public Comment: Members of the audience were provided an opportunity to speak during the
meeting. They were advised to identify themselves first by stating their name and address.
They were advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior Companion Program
Advisory Committee from responding and discussing your comments at length. The law only
authorizes them to do the following:
• 1. Make a statement of factual information,
2. Recite and existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be places on an agenda at a later date,
4. Discuss ways about fundraising for the program.
There were no public comments.
New Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
Results Regarding Review of Applicants: Debbie Crites presented biographical information
forms that were provided to her from the Mayor's office. The forms were completed by
individuals who have requested to be appointed for a City board, commission, or committee
appointment. Ms. Crites was asked to contact these individuals and inquire if they would like to
serve on the SCP Advisory Committee.
Awards: Discussion regarding changing the recognition program. Ms. Crites presented the idea
of designing patches for the companions to display on their vest (uniform). She explained that
at the present, the companions do not receive recognition for their years of service. She would
like patches made for one, five,ten,fifteen and 20 years. Other recognition patches can also be
developed. Committee members ask her to get bids and designs for this project.
Recognition Event: The committee discussed the results of the companion surveys indicate
they would like their recognition event to be independent from other Senior Corp programs.
Ms. Crites was asked to explore dates and locations.
