Regular Meeting
Thursday,July 29, 2010,4:00 p.m. CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
Lindale Senior Center
3135 Swantner Dr., Corpus Christi,TX
Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during
the meeting. A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first
identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as
possible when addressing the Committee. Presentations will be limited to
three (3) minutes.
Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need accommodation
is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 826-3147 at
least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
MINUTES
I. Call to Order—Meeting was called to order at 4:13 p.m. by Isabel
Odeh.
II. Roll Call of Members—Members present: Marie Partington,
Shirley Tipton, Apolonia Cantu, Isabel Odeh, Tina Belock
III. Approval of Minutes—No meeting was held in June; minutes for
May 27, 2010 were reviewed and unanimously approved.
IV. Action on Absent Members— Tina Belock confirmed that Carmela
Quintanilla will not be able to continue to serve on SCP Advisory
Committee.
V. Public Comment: No Public Comment
Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior
Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and
discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them
to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information;
2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry; or
3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be place on an agenda
at a later date.

VI. Presentation: NA
VII. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action
1. Elect a Chair—Isabel Odeh requested that new chair be
elected; action was deferred until additional Advisory
Committee members are present.
2. New Committee Members—Christy Martinez was approved
by the City Council, and Brian Perez declined to serve. Tina
Belock will talk to City Secretary to see if Amber Sayre's
name can be submitted since she was approved as a candidate
by SCP Advisory Committee during May's meeting.
3. Recognition Survey—Senior Companion Volunteers
Recognition Survey was reviewed and approved by SCP
Advisory members. The survey will be presented to SCP
Volunteers during their next meeting.
Tina Belock will bring Volunteeer Award packets to SCP
Advisory Meeting in August, so further recommendations can
be made about the process of presenting awards to SCP
volunteers. There was a consensus and much discussion on
the importance of ensuring that volunteers with many years of .
service are acknowledged and not left out when the selection
of awards is being made.
4. Recruitment for new Volunteers—Isabel Odeh mentioned that
Cimmaron Senior Apartments had been presented as an
option as an option for a recruitment location in previous
meetings. Tina Belock said that recruitment efforts have
already been made there; one successful presentation was
made and future presentations may be considered.
Tina Belock also reported that television commercial is now
airing on Channel 3 as a recruitment effort for SCP
Volunteers.
VIII. Agenda for next meeting will be turned in to City Secretary
By Tina Belock.
IX. Meeting was adjourned by Isabel Odeh at 5:08p.m.

SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEERS

I want to continue having our Christmas party with only Senior Companion
Volunteers.
I want to have our Christmas party together with other programs such as
RSVP or Foster Grandparents.
I want to have our Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner with only Senior
Companion Volunteers.
I want to have our Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner together with other
Programs such as RSVP and Foster Grandparents.
I want for our Senior Companion Volunteers to continue to be nominated
for the STAR Awards.
I do not want for the Senior Companion Volunteers to be nominated for the
Star Awards.
