Senior Companion Program (SCP) Advisory Committee
Regular Meeting SEP 1 7 2010
Thursday, May, 27, 2010, 4:00 p.m.
Lindale Senior Center CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
3135 Swantner Dr., Corpus Christi,TX
Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during
the meeting. A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first
identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as
possible when addressing the Committee. Presentations will be limited to
three (3) minutes.
Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need accommodation
is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 826-3147 at
least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
MINUTES
I. Call to Order— Meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. by Isabel
Odeh.
II. Roll Call of Members —Members present: Marie Partington,
Shirley Tipton, Apolonia Cantu, Monica Rodriguez, Isabel Odeh,
Tina Belock
III. Approval of Minutes — Minutes were not available for meeting
held in March, 2010; no meeting was held in April, 2010 since
not enough members were present to hold meeting.
IV. Action on Absent Members — Tina Belock, Interim Director will
contact Carmela Quintanilla to clarify if she will be able to attend
future meetings since she presently has a conflict with her
schedule.
V. Public Comment: No Public Comment
Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the Senior
Companion Program Advisory Committee from responding and
discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes them
to do the following:
1. Make a statement of factual information;
2. Recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry; or

3. Advise the citizen that this subject will be place on an agenda
at a later date.
VI. Presentation: NA
VII. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action
1. Elect a Vice Chair=Monica Rodriguez was unanimously
approved by Committee Members.
2. Recognition Events for Volunteers
Issue regarding options for future recognition events was
discussed. Consensus was for recommendation to have Senior
Companion Volunteer events to be held separate from RSVP
and Foster Grandparents.
It was further recommended to develop questionnaire/survey to
present to Senior Companion Volunteers to seek their opinion
as to their preference on events in which they are recognized:
Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, Christmas Dinner and
Star Award.
Shirley Tipton presented concern regarding disruptive behavior
when translators are used during their monthly volunteer
meetings. Tina Belock, interim director will address issue
during their meetings to promote more respectful behavior.
3. Recruiting Additional Advisory Committee Members
Applications of interested committee members were reviewed.
Tina Belock will check with Carmela Quintanilla on whether
she can attend future meetings to clarify on whether 2 or 3 new
members will be needed. After reviewing all applicants, the
Committee selected Christie Martinez, Brian Perez, and Amber
Sayre.
VIII. Identified Items to be Placed on Next Agenda — Tina Belock
agreed to continue responsibility to submit agenda to City
Secretary prior to next scheduled meeting.
IX. Adjournment— Meeting was adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEERS

I want to continue having our Christmas party with only Senior Companion
Volunteers.
I want to have our Christmas party together with other programs such as
RSVP or Foster Grandparents.
I want to have our Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner with only Senior
Companion Volunteers.
I want to have our Annual Volunteer Awards Dinner together with other
Programs such as RSVP and Foster Grandparents.
I want for our Senior Companion Volunteers to continue to be nominated
for the STAR Awards.
I do not want for the Senior Companion Volunteers to be nominated for the
Star Awards.
